PC Shield ammo
Anything I should stay away from? Read somewhere I shouldn't use Blazer in ported barrels? Any suggestions on ammo I should use? Thanks!

Blazer is fine. Never heard of that before.
Try whatever you can. What doesn't work don't buy again

i saw on another thread here that the blazer brass boxes are marked not for ported barrels (didnt have ported before so didnt pay attn); i actually spoke with CCI and they said that ammo had a very thin plating that could come off thru the ports. So they say it is not for use in ported barrels like our PC Shields.
I have about 650 rounds thru my PC Shield (9mm), and near all has been 115fmj Remington UMC along with some Herter's as well. Also have run thru a few mags worth of Hornady Critical Def 115 as well.
Zero issues with the above ammo.
btw this is what the manu sent to me on my inquiry for the Blazer Brass line in my PC Shield:
"The bullet is a plated bullet. The plating on the bullet is thin. Some of the ported barrels had issues with shaving the copper plating from the lead core and spraying back onto the shooter. It is safety warning to prevent injuries from ported barrels."
note from their other lines he said their Lawman ammo was heavier plated and ok for use here

I have been carrying Speer Gold Dot 124gr. Just the regular, my local shop was out of the +P. I want to get the new Gold Dot G2 version but nowhere around me sells it. Anyway I have ran the above ammo in my PC Shield 9mm along with Tula Brass Maxx, Federal 115gr. fmj. and perfecta 115gr. fmj. All of these have ran flawless so far. Never tried any steel though.

Is it safe to use lead bullets?
I have been using Bayou Bullets that have a polymer coating without a problem in by PC 9mm Shield.
I am thinking about getting the PC 45 Shield. I hand cast 230gn lead bullets that I use in Wild Bunch shooting competition. Would these be safe to use in the 45 PC Shield?

Any plated or lead bullets will "scrape" on the porting. This causes barrel debris / build up in the ports. You need to use jacketed ammo only. It's not really bad....but recommended.

I don't mind cleaning the ports if they get some debris or build up in them. The main concern is the safety. Is it SAFE to shoot lead bullets?

Some of the plating or lead could get scraped off and leave the barrel through the ports, and go anywhere. I had no idea about this, and then I saw another thread somewhere (might have been a different forum) about it, so I checked the ammunition I've been using and most of it says not to use in a ported barrel...I have had no issues with it though, with about 4000 rounds. Most (all that I have seen) of the inexpensive ammo , including the federal, sold at Walmart has the "not for ported barrels" warning.

In all my pistols I avoid steel cased ammo. The gunsmith who I purchased them from and does any "work" I need is recognized locally as an expert, 2nd generation armorer. My pistols are not junk so why feed them junk. Quality brass cased ammo does not have to cost a lot of money. Perfecta brass cased from Walmart has been 100% at less than $10. box of 50 in 9mm and less than $13 in .380. I also use Aguila 124 gr, Winchester, Federal and Remington in 115 gr. I prob have few other brands I've omitted that cycled 100%. I had problems / fits with Blazer 115 in my 9mm Shield until the feed ramp was polished and the gun thoroughly inspected by my GS. After it ran no problem, as in finishing up the 90 or so blazer brass rounds I had left. I don't buy blazer 9mm any more though. As for the steel cased stuff I've heard a few explanations but I am no expert, I trust the experts for advice.
Note: My Shield is not a PC version, just chiming in with a general comment since the topic is ammo.

I only use new brass - Fiocchi or Federal 115gr FMJ - as range ammo and Federal 124gr HST for SD ammo.

I still don't have a definitive answer. Is it SAFE to use cast lead bullets in a ported barrel?
