Breaking in the wife
Well guys hope this helps with your wives, first time at the range for my wife today and victory! She did great, with that said this was the method.
firearms in order
bersa thunder 22
CZ SP01 tacticle
Bodyguard 380
NRA basic pistol is totally worth it, do it!
We established her stance and NAA
Grip and trigger control
Breath control
dry fire (eyes open and eyes closed)
Then 4 round groups at 5yds
Then 4 round groups at 7yds
Next rounds the same but with CZ (she loved duh!)
Then 18yds with the CZ (phenomenal results 4 rounds inside 5")
Back to 5yds with the bodyguard
Finally the bodyguard 380 (first thing out of her mouth "I don't like this gun or trigger)
Of course not after shooting a full size handgun, but the point was she is confident after her first time and knows the bodyguard is just for carry to possibly save her life, or whatever small conceal handgun she chooses.
Victory! She understands the progression, can't wait to go again!
I'm going to let her pick her carry piece, I won't make the mistake of picking it out for her.
Hope this helps guys!

A lot of fun getting your spouse to shoot. My husband didn't get the bug until I got him a Shield and signed him up for CC classes.
We loved my full size CZ 75B at the range, and both got the Compact D "PCR" for carry. Shoots just as well as the full size at common SD distance, even in DA.

My wife will not touch a gun, though she insist that the kids learn to shoot. Home defense is what she has me for.

The CZ 75 PCR is a great carry gun. If she's looking for something smaller, try the Glock 43 or Sig P938.

Did the same with my wife 6 months ago. Initially she was nervous around weapons, but decided she needed to learn to shoot with all the violence and crime going on. Took her to an NRA course for handguns to learn the basics and let her fire one. She trained on a full size 9mm and felt comfortable with it. She picked out a S&W 9 Shield, and trained with it for a few months before taking a CCW class. Last month we both took the class together and are now awaiting our permits. She has gotten where she enjoys shooting, and hit the range a couple of times a month.

my wife of 30 years is not much into guns or shooting sports, though her entire family all hunts, shoots skeet, and so on. I was only an occasional hunter/shooter until a few years ago and dove head first into this hobby. Sometimes she'll tag along on my range trips, usually one of my .22's (prefers my Buckmark over my compact .22) and sometimes she'll shoot my PC Shield as well (likes that one vs my full size MP).
She's commented that she wants to learn at minimum the basics and how to handle a gun, but on the flip side is not really into carry, etc so i let her move along at her pace. She actually is a pretty good shot, but i'll never push her to do anything she doesnt like or enjoy.
On a side note when i read the thread title, i chuckled as i envisioned my wife doing a similar thread on some shopping site..... how she slowly got her hubby to enjoy shopping, starting with small trips and then adding lunch to the mix to keep him happy...

CR Jeff, you done real good! Only thing I can add is don't be in a rush getting her to pick a carry gun. For instance, she may come to realize that the BG380 is Ok as a carry gun. Not fun to shoot at the range but would probably work fine as a carry piece. It's small and light, so it's easy. I say this because I love my 9c but it is a LOT more of a commitment to carry it and it's spare mag than it is to pop my previous carry gun, a Keltec PF9, in my pocket.

Good going. It's been so long since I taught my wife, I remember driving out back in the buckboard and shooting up a lot of black powder, then having to cut it short so we could go back and milk the chickens.......................or something like that.

Going to take her to a shop here in central pa that you can rent and try most models of handguns on the range, although I love my bodyguard I'm going to have her try a few others and since she is all about the trigger now!!! maybe the Ruger LC9s striker fire, they say that trigger is nice. Might be just a bit big for her purse though vs my bodyguard 380

On our second date, I took the wife to the range to shoot handguns. I started her off with a .22 pistol, then a 9mm pistol and finished with a full size 1911 shooting 230g FMJ. She ate it up. With each center fire caliber, I started her off with one round in the pistol in case she panicked and dumped the pistol on the deck after firing the first round. She did not panic. Although she did complain about running out of ammunition too early. To this day, she prefers the .45 ACP over all other handguns.
Women make great students. If your wife is interested in firearms, consider yourself a lucky man. Shooting is a family sport and has a practical application.
