Default Thoughts on this trade?

I'm thinking about trading my M&P 1.0 for the 2.0, but not sure how much I'd get for it. I have about 2000k rounds through it and it's in great condition (bought it 3 months ago). I have everything that came with it. Well, I did paint the lettering on the frame (nail polish) and have medium and large stippled removable back straps to add to it (but I also still have the factory ones). I can throw in the custom IWB holster as well. I'm thinking the only way I'd trade it in is if they'll take it as is plus $100. Otherwise I'm not sure it's worth it. I plan on getting the CZ p-10c once it hit stores or the FNS-9 and don't want to spend more than $100 on a trade-in plus pay for a new gun. Should I just stick with the 1.0? Just wondering...what are your thoughts are?

No knock on your current gun, but I am not sure a LGS would make that trade with you. The new model is going to be in greater demand than an older model and they would have to sell your trade-in to make money on the deal.

I don't often find that trading a gun to a shop serves me as well as selling mine and taking them cash.

Don't get mad. When I come across a pistol that has been stippled, and has also been painted, I start to wonder what else has been done. I usually run away.

I would not do that trade, either as an owner or a shop.

Take the $100 and put it towards an Apex kit.

The 2.0 (in my opinion) is not worth a trade. I would tune my current one.

BUT, if you wanted to add and M&P.....I still wouldnt do the 2.0.

I would get a 1.0 at a daggon good price ( and they are very tempting to add a forth for me), drop better sights, the Apex kit.

From what I see, the only big difference is the texture, an additional doo-dadd on the slide, a backstrap, and some cosmetic stuff.

If the 1.0 CORE 4.25" model gets below the $415 mark, I will but one, OR if the VTAC gets to $400'ish...I'll buy that too.
Then again, Apex will love me as that would be two more kits I get to buy from them

I also doubt a gun store will make that trade. I'd keep it and tune it as discussed above, or sell it outright. Independently or at a gun store, I think you'll have to take a $200 hit if you sell or trade it. And honestly, I think that's fair based on my experience.

I would keep the 1.0, and if you really like the 2.0, add it to your collection. Not worth trading.

No, no. It's removable. Meaning, I bought an extra back strap and had it stippled, but I have the factory ones that came with the gun.

You might be right. It might not be worth it at all. Actually, an older gentleman asked if I wanted to sell it to him a couple of weeks ago and I politely declined. That was before the 2.0 buzz! Would of, could of, should of!

Whatever you do, don't trade your gun in. Sell it outright.

I'm exaggerating a little, but only a little, but no matter how cheaply you sell it, you'll get more for it that way than most gun shops will give you on a trade in.

Are you sure the 2nd Gen M&P is really that much better? As someone else suggested, just tuning your existing gun may be cheaper and give you better results.

You don't have much chance of trading your gun and $100 of a new 2.0. The way the dealers look at it is they are not going give you more for your gun than they can purchase a new one from the wholesaler for, and if you have modified it, it could far less. So your best deal is to sell it to someone and purchase the new one.

The paint can be undone (it's only nail polish) and I can remove the stippled back strap and replace it back to factory. But yes, your original point remains...they can easily pay less for the gun from a wholesaler. Thanks for your input.

+1 to the other opinions...I think you'd be looking at closer to $200 and your gun. The LGS is there to make money, and if they've been around awhile they know the profit is more about what they buy it for than what they sell it for.

If you get more interested, and don't want to deal with selling it yourself (I don't blame you, I hate selling used stuff) try a really small shop. I have one near me, and he sells very little in new guns, so he puts a little more into the used stuff, as it is his bread and butter.

Like others have said.....I doubt they'd do the trade. A custom holster doesn't mean anything since not everyone likes that style (whatever style it is) and some people....like me.....are opposite hand so that holster is completely useless.

If they take it - $100 then add money to make a profit....What's the point of selling a used gun at or close to the same price as a new one? In my LGS used M&Ps are priced around $350 - $399. Which means the owner go between $300 - $350

Good point. I didn't think of this. I mean, I'm not desperate to sell it and I truly love it, but if I can get a good deal and pay $100 (which some ppl on here have clearly stated that might be impossible) then I would sell it. Thanks for the insight.

Great point on the holster. As for selling it and paying an additional $100, the whole point was to get the upgraded version without too much of an investment. I love my 1.0 and not in dire need to sell, but for a good deal I would do it. But as you and others have stated, my best option is to keep it. Thank you!

Sell everything outright and you should be able to get close to the 2.0 selling price. Out here, my LGS will only give you half what they can sell it for.

This reminds me...there are shops selling the first gen LCPs for Hi-Point money right now. I am tempted to get one. I mean, $175?

Also reminds me of when I was in the desktop PC enthusiast crowd, and guys would sell a previous generation part at a massive loss just to get a 5% performance increase with the new one. One reason I got out of that stuff...everything loses value immediately. S&W revolvers seem to hold up much better over time

Great point. I'm not gaining tremendous amount of value for this trade it. It's definitely worth keeping. Good thing I like it. Thanks so much.

All very good suggestions\comments made by other forum members.

For what its worth here is my 2 cents. As a person who buys and trades a lot - I really don't care for anyone's custom stuff (holster, grips, paint job etc). Extra mags are a bonus. Better off selling it yourself on GB and price it under the competition if you want it to move - you will still get more money than trading. Let me share a story with you. I've been going to my gunshop\range for over 18 years. Never traded a gun with them and that's because every time I took a handgun to them for a trade value I was offered $100. I swear it is their "canned low ball" price. I also listen to them offer a guy next to me the same thing. Btw - their used gun counter is always sparse- probably by design. LOL

I would go with with TruckinThumper said (Apex trigger)

I shy away from used guns unless I know the owner. Even then it's risky. I have one pistol that I'll never sell because it's a total nightmare.

As I stated before, the small changes I made can be undone! I can remove the nail polish and I can remove the stippled back strap and put the factory back on it and trade it in as stock! It's not a big deal. I'm not some gunsmith in a tool shop working on my gun. I don't even know how to. I simply changed those two things for a different look.

Anything that can easily be removed or reverted back to original for very little cost or effort (and especially 0 cost) is original IMHO. If you were to trade I'm sure you would remove the color fill, put the stock backstrap back on, and just offer it with the "extra, more aggressive backstraps included"...so Stock it is. I'm not sure why folks get so hung up on the "customized" when it really isn't customized.

I think some may have misunderstood, thinking you thought, it was worth more because of the customizing...clearly not the what you were thinking, IMHO.

Hi there! I'm so happy you mentioned this. As I began reading the comments, I got the impression that this was in fact what they were thinking and perhaps it was because I wasn't specifically CLEAR in my post that I can and will revert my "customized" pistol back to stock before trading it in, while offering the customized holster and stippled back straps for free. I do not expect more for the trade at all!! I just wanted to know if it were WORTH trading and paying $100 in order to purchase the 2.0? That's all I wanted to know. Lol. Anyway, some people have made good points and others I think were misinformed. Either way, I LOVE my gun and its minimal customized components. And after gaining some insightful feedback, I will keep it and just buy the 2.0 later down the road if I want it that badly. Again, thank you for chiming in. I'm glad at least one person understood what I was trying to say!!

I wouldn't buy a new S&W of any sort.

Certainly not a new model until they've had a couple years to sort
Out the inevitable bugs.

Wow, I don't think anyone is going to give you a dime for a gun with 2 million rounds down the pipe... (2000K = 2000 * 1000 = 2000000).

"I'm not sure why folks get so hung up on the "customized" when it really isn't customized. "

I don't think we're hung up, just careful. If someone's done some things to the outside, they may have done some things to the action that are detrimental.

Sure, this kind of attitude can cause us to miss some great guns, but since everybody considers themselves gunsmiths (and mechanics - goodness gracious, the car forums...) these days, it just pays to be cautious. That leaves more bargains for all you smart folks.

I agree. Add into the equation that the "extra doodad" in front of the slide stop prevents this new 2.0 from fitting into many of the M&P 9 holsters. You may have to buy some new holsters. Be patient.
