Tried out my new m2.0 fde yesterday, very disappointed, slide kept locking back every other shot. Any one else have a problem?

I've seen students induce this failure by hitting the slide lock with their thumb in several different guns. Anyone else shoot your gun to try it?

I have also seen one gun with an incorrectly installed catch spring..I think it was a Kahr

I thought of that being possible, after the fact. But, if that was the case I'm gonna have to trade it off. I'm not exactly a novice and this is the only pistol I've ever shot that did this. Tried different ammo in different mags, same outcome. Thx for reply.

Try is one handed or weak hand and see if it happens. If it does then send it back to S&W to be fixed. Good luck.

Did you give it a good cleaning before using?

Generally not a good idea to be the first on the block to buy a new model S&W.

Give them a few years to work out the inevitable bugs.

I put probably 300 rounds through my new M2.0 FDE on Saturday with different brands of ammo and did not experience the issue you are having. Used the mags that came with as well as a couple of other M&P9 17 round magazines that I bought. I did have one failure to feed and one misfire, both ammo problems and not the firearm.

Tried everything suggested and problem is still there. My hand is no where near slide stop. It's like it naturally wants to rest in the lock position instead of being activated by mag follower.

Unfortunately it sounds like it needs to go back to the S&W Mothership!

They did a complete redesign of the Slide Stop mechanism, here's a pretty good youtube video that shows the workings of it. It might help shed some light on what's not working correctly on yours.

Good Luck!

Yes I had the same problem. After every round the slide locked back and it wasn't shooter induced. I tried with multiple magazines and ammo. I bought the FDE model and the black one. It was the black one I had issues with.

I wish S&W would do more work on their new guns before retailing them.

Since they won't, I wouldn't dream of buying one until we have several years of experience with them so we know what the problems are and what fixes S&W is willing to make systemically as opposed to waiting to deal with the end users who complain. Not all will, so the bean counters figure the profit from the noncomplainers into the cost of systemic fixes.

Overall, they've outsourced their QC to the end user.

I spoke to a friend of mine at a large (top 10 pop in USA) police department and he said S&W sold them M&P's for $350 apiece new. Can't expect too much for QC for that price I guess. They were able to sell their used glocks for $450 lol, so they actually made money by getting new M&P's.

QC and the price sold to PD have nothing to do with each other. There's probably some minor imperfection/unseen problem thats causing this. After designing the gun they obviously tested it to make sure it works. So somewhere there's an issue that didn't show up in testing. Even when a product is thoroughly tested problems still show up. Every company has this. Look at CZ. Their 75 were all good for decades then one day they started breaking the slide lock cross bar and locking up pistols. At one point Cz even gave extra slide stops in the box with a new gun. Problem was eventually found and corrected.this was happening around 2008.

NCW Ray, thanks for posting the video. It kind of reminds me of how a 1911 slide stop works. I'd like to see how easy/hard it is to remove the new tab for replacement/cleaning/repairs. Good luck to you guys having issues, I'm sure S&W will make it right, I just hope it doesn't take months.

Handled a M 2.0 yesterday at a gun shop, and parts flew out of the lower. Don't know if there was a defect or you can't put the break down lever back to original position. But it flipped out of the gun. Thought I was going to have to buy it right then and there.

That would tell me the glocks were worth more used, than the M&P new.

Not really. Two different markets. A new M&P is around $500 for private, none LEO purchase.

How much are new Glocks for police departments? Maybe the same, maybe not.

I've bought both the M&P 4.25 inch and the 5 inch actually traded the 4.25
for the 5" because I wanted the safety got the first ones my LGS got in put
100 to 200 rds through both also got a M&Pc when they first came out and also the M&P Shield all in 9mm and though I agree it's usually better to wait awhile to buy any new product. (knock on wood) I haven't had any of the problems that I have read about. Sorry did have one problem with M&Pc dropping mag's while firing S&W fix it. I know it's discouraging
but I'am sure S&W will take care of it and you be happy when they are done.

Local PD was paying $250.00 for Glocks and M&P's. The Army will be paying $220.00 for the Sig P320
I can buy a Glock (as an individual) with my LE ID for $425.00 but I'm not a Glock fan

Since most people aren't the local PD, or the Army or have an LE card we cant compare special pricing with gun store pricing.

For instance, I get free diesel, but that's not something that can be typically compared against what most people pay.

Glocks are notoriously over priced for what they are! Still have to upgrade a it even be as good as anything else.

First off, I am a Glock guy and own 10 of them. My brother is enamored with FDE Guns. He bought the new Beretta M9A3 FDE when it became available and then bought a matching TLR-1 to attach to it. When the M&P 2.0s came out he bought one each .40 SW and 9mm , in FDE of course. I carried the 9mm MP 2.0 to the range and ran a couple hundred rounds through it. Not only did it go bang every time and spit each and every empty out without a hiccup, the blasted thing was accurate and the trigger was actually decent to the point that I want one. It pointed naturally and firing it produced little to no muzzle flip. Finally, a polymer handgun that is not just another Glock copy.
