22 Compact Question
Hi folks. I have no interest in using a suppressor, so I'm trying to find out if I can buy an M&P 22 compact that is NOT suppressor-ready? I don't want to deal with removing the thread protector---I want to be able to field strip with ease. I think it might be item number 108390, but I can't tell for sure. Thanks for your input.

I have a compact and it does not have anything on the barrel that prevents me from doing an easy takedown for cleaning. Not sure the model# though as its not handy for me to get right now.

Even some of the threaded models have a "bushing" or whatever that doesn't hinder barrel removal.
You need a 22 can though, for real.

Thanks! Have you had any problems with lead in the barrel? I read that maybe some types of ammo cause this in the 22. Is there particular ammo that yours likes?

i have 800+ rounds with 0 issues thru mine so far. A combination of Fed automatch and champ, and CCI mini mags (several styles). I mix the ammo and clean after ever range trip so cant really say if one fouls more than another. Eventually i'll mostly use mini mags, as my other .22 (a Buckmark) doesnt care for Fed as much so i try to restock in whatever that one uses best as the compact seems to eat anything i have given it

Mine does not have the thread protector either and has been 100% w/everything, even .22 short, but that makes it a single shot weapon.

NON-threaded is 108390. Threaded is 10199. I recently purchased 2 of the Threaded versions. I read about horror stories on here about removing the adapter. I had zero issues with either gun. As soon as I took them out of the box I laid them on a thick towel, removed the thread protector, put the included wrench in place and gave it a solid "whack" with my palm and they both came loose with no problem. Put a little Superlube on the threads and reassembled them. Tried to remove them again and 0 problems. I would not try to leave them a little "loose" to try not to have an issue. The threads are not tapered. You wouldn't want it backing out on you while in the field and loose it. With the little wrench included field stripping would be no problem at all. Not sure why, and don't doubt that some folks have trouble getting the adapter off, but after looking at it closely, I really think it is attributed to being slightly "over-tightened" from the factory and really clean machine work on the threads. Only the flat to flat, and the ramp on the threading is providing the friction to stay in place. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely go for the Threaded, 10199 model.

So on yours, you can just remove the slide without having to take off any protectors, right?

Correct. That's all I have to do.
