Had a chance to head to the range on Saturday and try out both of my new M2.0s in 9mm. I ordered both the 4.25 with no safety and then 5 FDE with the manual safety. To start off - man these guns shoot smooth. Recoil is little to none. Muzzle rise is minimal. The stippling is great and it stays put in your hands.

I wanted to share some thoughts for those who might be comparing the two models and which one to get. Obviously they are the same pistol, but one thing I noticed was that the 5 FDE model with the manual safety has a grittier trigger. To me it was very noticeable between the 4.25 without the safety vs. the 5 with the safety. Anyone notice this who has had the opportunity to fire both? It would make sense this is the case, and I plan to remove the safety on the 5 and get some plugs from S&W.

After running 200 rounds of Blazer through each, I only had two issues. The 4.25 ran flawless without a single hiccup. The 5 had one failure to feed. And then for some reason, the slide was not locking back once the last shot was fired. I experienced this problem probably two or three times with two different mags. I didn't clean either before I took them to the range - they were just straight out of the box. I am going to give them a good cleaning and then go back to the range this weekend and report back. I would be interested if anyone else is having that issue though. Overall very pleased with both and I love the way the 5 FDE model looks. Accuracy is great, although I only went out to 10 yards at the range so far.

How's the accuracy compared to the standard 1.0?

I almost bought a 4.25" today but it had the manual safety so I opted not to get it.

In case you missed the dozens of posts on the subject, the grittness in the trigger when new is the luck of the draw, and varies from gun to gun without regard to manual safeties. Usually it is mostly roughness or grit left in the striker block and link.
Both my Pros were gritty at first, but cleaned up and broke in to a smooth 4 1/2#.

My full size 1.0 was really gritty and nasty but worked itself out after about 500 trigger presses. My 2007 made 9c is butter smooth nowadays.

I took a look at a 5" today. Trigger was fair, at best. Fit of backstrap to grip was very poor with the edges offset by as much as 1/16" in places. I don't think I'll be buying one.

I also noticed that the back straps didn't fit that great on the sides. I'm still on the fence about wether I want one or not.

Most mass manufactured guns are dirty new. If you don't do a good cleaning and grease/lube before you take them to the range, expect the report you just gave.

The gritty trigger issue has been noted, addressed and resolved on this board dozens and dozens of times. In short, shoot it hundreds of rounds until it smooths out, or dry fire hundreds of times for free. Better yet, take it apart and polish the trigger bar, striker block and striker channel. Problem solved immediately.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Glad to hear the grittiness in the trigger will go away with time. This is my first step into the striker fired pistol world. I have an external hammer fired Jericho 941 that has a trigger as smooth as silk. And I was interested there was such a difference between the 4.25 and the 5.

As far as accuracy between the 1.0 and the new ones I can't comment. Never fired the 1.0. Although both of these guns are far more accurate than me. I need some practice on these triggers before I can give a good report on that front.

The trigger is definitely improved over the 1.0. The grip texture is also awesome for a full size pistol.

I was taught to always clean a new gun before shooting it. How do you know there's not some kind of blockage or debris in the barrel?
With the quick cleaning tools available today (Bore Snakes and similar) there's no reason to not clean the barrel of a new gun before shooting it.

I was actually impressed with the 2.0 trigger at my LGS.
I've had my 40c for a few years with the APEX DCAEK kit in it...2.0 trigger feels just as nice, or nice enough to where I couldn't see spending the money on it...

Why couldn't S&W raise the stippling to where the thumbs hold??? They went that far already.
