Is the Apex trigger installation a DIY or does it require a gunsmith?
Thank you. I just got a M&P 2.0 but I am thinking of upgrading my 1.0 version to Apex. Which one do you recommend for a pistol that will be used for target practice and plinking?

I haven't installed one yet, but I have watched the videos. The trigger/sear stuff itself seems pretty easy, just punching pins out. The trickier part will be the USB kit where you have to remove the rear sight. I plan on doing this DIY, but I've got a lot of "gunsmith" DIY stuff by myself already (including having presses for rear sights, etc).

I installed a couple of the duty versions of apex and had no trouble. If you are a bit handy you should be fine. Apex has you tube videos to walk you through it.

Easy.....except for the plunger. You have to pretty much take off the rear sight.
CORE, easy...except the screw that hold the plunger cover
my 9c rear sight went on and off without a hitch.

The early M&P full-size came with a 1/16" sear plunger spring that must be updated to 1/8" in order to install the apex trigger and FSS. You can try to find a new sear housing block, which is difficult. Mine came with a thumb safety, which I wanted to keep, and I was unable to find a replacement block with the safety. I machined my plunger spring hole to 1/8". If your M&P is an early model, it might not be a DIY project.

Installed the FSS and flat trigger in mine a few weeks ago. I was changing my sights anyways so the plunger spring in the rear sight wasnt a big deal for me but just be aware of that. Other than that it was much easier than I thought and its absolutely great. Best trigger I've had that wasnt a 1911

For target practice definitely the Apex FSS and trigger kit it the way to go. I have it on my FS9 and couldn't be more pleased with it.
>> Apex FSS
It is DIY, IMO the hardest part is removing the rear sight, in some pistols is tighter than others. I have a sight pusher which I do recommend to have. On my FS45, I can remove the rear sight with my thumb.
Watch the videos as much as you can, get the right tools and you should be fine.

You can purchase the Sear Housing Block with 1/8" spring hole at Speed Shooter Specialties. You would still need a spring but that comes with the Apex kit. Sear Housing Block Assembly w/ Mag Safety, Internal Lock Type [1766] - $35.00 : Welcome to Speed Shooter Specialties

Depending on your skill level and the tools you have at hand. It is DYI.
I installed two different kits, one in my everyday carry M&P Shield, and a Forward Set Sear kit with Flat face trigger and Reset Assist Mechanism in my M&P Pro series.
Just take your time and keep the frustration levels low. I found that putting the trigger spring in was a bit fiddly. The rear sights do require some effort. They are tight, but once off everything went well.
BTW - My local gun-shop/gunsmith would put the trigger kit(s) in, if I purchased the kit(s) through them. I didn't want to wait the extra 3 days.
I hope this helped.

I watched the videos on Youtube to be certain I was up to it. It was easier than I thought. Having the proper tools was key.
