They are interchangeable between generations.

Although not a perfect fit, they can be used either way. The 1.0 is a little wider so it will spread the backstrap out, but it's just plastic so it can be shaped back.

I assume the question has been answered but magazines are interchangeable also.

The two larger inserts from my 2.0 fit my Gen 1 .40 like they were made for it, the two smaller ones required some pressure to get the bottoms to fit, but not much, and once the pin's in all four fit fine.

The SMALL one I took off the Gen 1 fits the 2.0 perfectly.

For what it's worth...

I picked up my new M&P Pro Series Core on Friday. I took it to a local indoor range and they just happened to be giving free 2.0 rentals AND ten rounds of ammo that day.

So I took both to the lane and tried them out. All told, I had 110 rounds for a quick shoot. The 2.0 got its ten rounds and not a single one more.

The 2.0 was a fine shooter, but pretty standard. The grip was pretty aggressive in stippling, and the trigger was what I expected from the factory. Some creep and a strong, but not unbearable break point. The sights seemed nice, but I'm cross dominant so I need optics on my firearms. I can't hit a damn thing without them on my pistols especially haha.

They had it on sale for $450 that day and $500 normally. If I was in the market for a standard/factory FS 9mm, I think it's worth the money. It didn't blow me away, but I did say "nice."

I had my 2.0 for a few weeks and it's a super good one at that. It is gray and night compared to a Glock. Without paying more and nothing is really needed to improve the 2.0. Too is got such a crappy barrel, sights and cheapy looking plastic mags that leave a lot to be desired. S&W did it right!

So far not a fan waiting for a pro model in 5 inch without a safety? And I don't like the fact they cut off the beaver tail on the new frame. I know they are trying to up grade but went a bit too far. And again it seems like the new poly gun will be Chassis driven so extending front metal support good but needs work. Just my opinion and well we all have one!!!

I found the Gen 1's beavertail served no useful function whatever beyond adding a worthless half-inch in length to the frame.

Much prefer the 2.0 there.

Yeah, I never got the beaver tail on this gun. It served no practical purpose. I think it was more for appearance because it doesn't factor into added support or leverage.

It doesn't & I have no idea why they bothered.

There's no hammer bite to guard against, it doesn't protect against slide slash, and it's too high to give any support against recoil.

It does create a print point under clothing & I'd asked a Smith rep a while back if it was hollow, or if I could remove it.
He said it was hollow (found out later he was wrong), so I never did grind it off.

The 2.0 is much better off without it, for me.

Dunno if others have noticed, but the 2.0 is also slightly de-horned at the upper right rear corner of the ejection port, and it has little scallops in the bottom of the grip area for pulling out a stuck mag.

Add note:
Just off the phone with S&W, the inserts transfer well back & forth between Gen 1 & 2.0, but work best if the retention pin travels with the inserts.

The pin has been slightly modified (comes out much easier now), so the recommendation is that if you swap 2.0 inserts onto a Gen1, swap the 2.0 pin with that insert.

If you have an older Gen 1 & want to order 2.0 backstrap inserts, might want to order a 2.0 pin to fit it best.

I did not swap pins along with inserts when I was checking for interchangeability & that may be why a couple of the 2.0 inserts took a little squeezing to fit the Gen 1.

Just as an FYI in case anybody's interested in a comprehensive review of the new 9mm 2.0, the Kindle eBook's live through Amazon.com.

Anyone else get stiffed by S&W on the frame plugs? I emailed them and they said they don't have them for the M2.0 and don't know if they ever will. Huh? Seems silly. I told them so too!

Well let me put my two cents in as well. I even posted something on here earlier. And I don't believe this new version of the m&p is all that great for all the hype. The trigger still sucks and if I were to buy one then yes apex here I come. Hate the safety on this gun and I still haven't seen a five inch without it yet can I get one not sure cause the only five inch gun I've seen is fde in color and has a safety. And really don't like any loaded chamber indicator on any gun unless put in an inconspicuous spot like the end of the slide don't want some flag sticking up behind the barrel on the slide hence why I don't buy ruger's for that same reason. If a state mandates it make a batch for that state which is the same as magazine issues we don't have ten round restrictions where I live and when I buy my gun don't have to worry about it. So make guns that don't have flags on them and sell them in my state and sell the ones that do to the poor *******s that live in those fuc... up states. And anyone that says that would cost to much well if your going to cater to stupidity then cater to all.. seems like we are going backwards in all these issues in states that don't like firearms and I'm not even going to mention which ones cause we all know which ones they are.. but I digress. I do agree with the frame extension on the M&P but don't like the removal of the extended beaver tail on the new gun. And again I own several I'll call them original M&P pistols and a few shields as well and other than trigger jobs on them all I find them to be great shooters just feel the new gun missed the boat on more than a few things...

Does the 2.0 have the "autoload" feature, or did they remove that?
(Lock slide open, insert mag with some authority, slide drops, chambering a round.)

UPDATE: I got an email back from them today saying the first guy was wrong and that the frame plugs for the original M&P9 will fit the 2.0. They gave me a phone number to call. I did and they are sending me some free. They only have black and said they don't think there will be fde ones made.

Again- If you have the technology, spend a couple bucks & pick up the Kindle eBook review.
It answers most questions about the differences between the new & old.

The new trigger IS better, there's no LCI "flag" sticking up anywhere, you don't have to buy one with a thumb safety, and the auto-close feature is gone.

Before griping so much, LEARN.

Interesting. I got my FDE plugs from S&W about 2 weeks ago. I waited about a month from the time I called them.

There's a ton of reviews already on youtube and other places. Why would someone go through the trouble of going to amazon, especially since you didn't even provide a name or link.

I guess to be more to the point, where can I find the mags with the FDE floor plate or possibly just purchase the floor plates separate.

Does anyone know when S&W will release the 2.0 in .45acp ? The dealers I've spoke with don't seem to know.

Thanks,
