I'm new here, and would really appreciate any feedback from experienced shooters on this issue. I have the full size. 22 , with only about five hundred rounds through it, with zero issues until this past Friday. The slide locked and would not go into battery after having two stove pipe jams back to back.
I only use CCI mini mags, forty grain in both the pistol, and my 15-22. I tried researching this online, however I was unable to find any websites where this issue was mentioned.
Once the last mag was empty, I removed it and inserted a fresh mag. The catch released the slide, however it would not go into battery. I also could not manually pull the slide back until I removed the magazine. The slide felt really sluggish, as if it didn't want to move. The gun is less than a month old, and was cleaned prior to use, and immediately after each trip to the range.
I would start with a good cleaning. Mine will start to stovepipe when it gets dirty. The slide springs on the .22 are not very strong so fouling can make the slide stiff. When cleaning check for lead or copper buildup where the feed ramp meets the chamber. Make sure to get the slide grooves and lugs with some solvent and a nylon brush. Then put a small drop of oil on the lugs when putting it together.
To make you feel better pulling the slide back on my M&P 22 with an empty magazine feels stiffer also.
