Default M&P compact spring very crunchy

So I just noticed a new noise coming from my 9c and it doesn't sound to great. Whenever I bring the slide to the rear the recoil spring sounds horribly crunchy. What is this and is it bad?

How old is your 9c? From what I've read, the ones made most recently have a smoother trigger. Mine was made less than two years ago and has always been smooth. To lighten the trigger pull, I installed the standard APEX fully machined sear and found that in addition to reducing the pull weight, it made my trigger pull even smoother. For some reason, it also the improved the random ejection pattern of my empties so that they eject more consistently to the right instead of toward me. I didn't expect that.
