Default Apex trigger for Shield 9

I got a wild hair today and ordered one of these trigger kits for my Shield.
Not being 100% satisfied with my factory trigger, I'd been looking at them for awhile now. After much deliberation and procrastination as well as, viewing MANY reviews on the subject and waiting to find one for a price I could accept, I finally did it.

Have any of you installed this trigger kit and, how do you like it?

I have an Apex kit with aluminum trigger in my Shield 9 and waiting for Apex to begin selling the kit for my .45. The improvement is huge!

Hi,

Like you I purchased an Apex trigger kit (100-051). I will never go back. I did use the "stock" trigger spring for a ~4lb pull. The kit had the Alum trigger, which I think, looks great and beats that articulating trigger S&W installs.

The only thing to be aware of is the removal of the rear sight. It will come off hard. You'll have two options:
1) DYI - I purchased a sight pusher off Amazon. Made the job real easy. I did not want to beat it off with a hammer and punch.
2) Take it to a gunsmith to remove the sight and replace the USB or Ultimate Striker Block.

If you purchased the kit from a gun shop, they may install the kit for free or a lessor price. My gun shop made the free offer to me. I choose DYI.

Everything else with the kit is easy to install. Many, many videos on-line to view. Apex also has excellent videos.

The only other thing I can mention is replacing the trigger spring back into the carriage, and that back into the polymer frame. It can get a little "fiddly". Just take your time, and be patient.

I hope this helped, :-)

I went with the duty/carry kit, and love it, it breaks nice and clean, no more grittiness.

I installed the duty/carry kit with the aluminum trigger. I'm very happy with the outcome. Nice break with very tactile reset. Removing the rear sight was a lot easier than I expected. I clamped it into a vice and it only took a few wacks with a brass punch wrapped in painters tape and hammer to remove the sight. Based on everything I read, I was a bit apprehensive about moving the sight but it worked out well.

That's the one I ordered but, I opted for the black trigger rather than the red I've seen in so many videos.

My main concern will be, making sure I get it back in the exact same spot. The sights are dead on at the moment and I'd like to keep them that way.

Default Apex for Shield

I am looking at getting an Apex Trigger for my Shield 9mm. I see that they have two models: 100-132 (flat trigger) and the 100-051. Is the 051 NOT the flat trigger and what seems to the preference? Do folks like the flat trigger better? I was going to get a a performance center shield but have already put on fiber optics so I think at this point just put an Apex in.
Are folks preferrign the flat trigger and wher eis the best price for these? I saw the 132 for like $146 on ebay. Not sure if there is a better price out there.

I'm not a fan of flat faced triggers and I didn't want a bright red one either, which is why I went for the 100-051. That and I found it on ebay for $139 for the full kit.

Ok, so..........I installed my trigger kit today but, I boogered up the left side of my rear sight just a bit.
Everything went fine until I got to the part where I had to drift the rear sight out. I bet I beat on that thing for half an hour with that tiny little mallet I saw so many people using in videos (and I had used up till that point with no problems) but, it just wouldn't budge. And before you ask..........yes, I removed the set screw first.
Seeing no other choice and since the cosmetic damage was already done, I broke out my Eastwing framing hammer and gave it a few good hard hits. Finally the thing started moving. Got it off, swapped out the parts and hammered it back on.

All in all, it turned out well and the trigger pull is SO sweet now! I can't believe I waited so long to do this upgrade.

At some point, I'll probably buy a new rear sight for it and have a gunsmith install it for me so I don't mar the new one up.

Get a Talon grip for that Shield and you will really enjoy shooting it.

I followed a different path. I already had a volquartsen sear with stock springs on mine and prior to putting the apex on , it had a 4# 3 oz. mine. after I put in the apex it dropped to 3# 6 oz and felt light enough to cause me some concern, so I switched back to the factory sear and am sitting right now at 4# even. The reason I say this is that everyone jumps to put the whole kit in and in most cases you can do as good as you need to with the trigger alone. I will caution you to follow their great instructional videos to the letter. good luck

I almost bought just the trigger but, I'm glad I decided to get the whole kit. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I have a PC Shield that was good out of the box but I wanted the flat faced trigger. I replaced trigger only and the difference is noticeable. Trigger is even smoother and reset is minimal. I enjoy shooting it even more now. I chose the black version and also replaced the FO sights with Ameriglo night sights.

Same here, went with the Duty Trigger kit. Huge difference in trigger pull and much tighter shot groups. Great investment IMHO! Throw a Hogue grip on there as well!!
