FWIW, I tend to agree with what the holster makers told you. I was checking out mine, and the space there, creates a sizable gap between me and the mag release, and I was thinking if the backer were there or a piece of kydex, it might press the mag release when I sat against the back of a seat, like when driving.
I honestly doubt it would be an issue, if there was a backer or kydex there, but I know it has never been an issue (for me) having the space there. As I said my concern would be more getting a proper grip while drawing. I tried a Sneeky pete when I first started concealed carry, and that was a problem, I couldn't get my fingers around the grip until it was out of the holster...didn't feel like a good idea.
If you are like me, you'll have to try it first hand to know for sure...and it may work great for you, and not for someone else.
