Default Shield Front Sight...Unreal...

All I need to do is move my front sight 1/32" or less to the left.... Yes it is the pistol.... Unreal...can't move it left or right! Not going to spend the $ for an official "sight adjuster" .... sorry, just venting as this looks so easy until you try to do a simple sight adjustment.... Jebus!

I've removed the rear sight on my FS with a sight adjuster, but never messed with my Shield. I did have sights put on it a few years ago, and the gunsmith that did it said that they were a pain and that he had to get a different sight pusher than what he already had to remove/install.

How did you do it? The front sight on my 22 Compact needs a tiny adjustment.

First thing I do is put the slide into a non-marring vise. Otherwise, you can beat on a punch all day and nothing happens except the slide bounces around.

^^^This^^^

I wrapped the slide in a rag, and put it in a vise. I put folded masking tape between the sight and punch to keep from mucking it up. It moves "fairly" easy.

Agreed! I've read that the factory presses the sight(s) in. I tried a brass punch on mine (5/16") and bent the end of it. So I paid the money and bought a sight pusher off Amazon.

The other option, might be to take it to a gun smith that has the proper tools. Most of them will align the sights as well.

Other than that, I'm no help. I just feel your pain!

I had an appointment at the LGS to have my sight moved.
Instead, I adjusted my grip and trigger finger. Shot 500 more rounds and canceled my appointment.

Are sight pushers gun-specific?

There are universal sight pushers. Others are specific. I've changed sights on a 9mm & 45 ACP Shield. Used the MGW Shield pusher which was designed for the 9mm & 40 Shield. I had to do a bit of filing, for the 45, which has a slightly wider slide. MGW makes pushers for many gun models.

I believe if you would check your owners manual, the point of aim on a 22 Compact can be adjusted for elevation and windage by adjusting the rear sight. There is no need to move the front sight.

Being a little OCD, I did move my front sight a tiny bit. I used a wooden dowel, and it wasn't really hard to do. Minor, but my first gunsmithing! Lol!

The MGW pushers are gun specific. Many are not. I build three different models that are not and work on the Shield. None are as expensive as the MGW. Here's a few pics of a sight change on a Shield:

I know my 9c they come off by pushing toward the ejection port, I think the shield is the same.

All S&W sights are removed toward the right (ejection port) side. Almost all American designed guns are the same. The only exception I'm aware of is Colt. Most European designs are opposite. If in question, call the manufacturer and ask.

I have the sight tool pictured in epj's avatar. Pushed my Shield sights with no issues. If you want to use the punch method, there is excellent informational video at Dawson Precision's website. That said, I would suggest you watch the video even if you use a pusher.

Thanks for the link. Using punches to fit the sight, as precision as he does, makes a lot of sense. Even pressure across the sight. I've always used a pusher, but after watching this, it wouldn't bother me to punch a sight.

??? Ok, I'm confused. How can the same tool be $329.99 in one place and about $40 elsewhere...? Knock off? Different tool?

Well, I wondered the same thing. On the eBay site I pushed the buy it now button to buy one for $27.50. Seems you are only getting one of the many adapters available. If you want the tool itself, add $365. Needless to say, I passed.

I used this universal one yesterday from Sight Pusher - Sight Pusher Sight Pusher easy to use. Not a break the bank tool. Adequate for the occassional job. Just have to slow down and make sure you get things lined up. If I was making a living working on guns I might look around for something different. Or not, this one appears to be well made.

Mystery solved!! I scanned and still missed the word "inserts". Thanks! ...and $14.90 shipping for an "Insert" is certainly no bargain.
