Default M&P compact 22 accuracy

With adjustable sights and light weight is this kit gun accurate ? Does anyone shoot for accuracy say out to 25 yards ? I was looking at one at a gunshow and got to thinking it felt good in hand but can't find anyone who has one to ask and the dealer said buy a M-63 , well I have one but I wouldn't mind something a little different . Anyhow has anyone found they can get 1-1 1/2" accuracy at around 25 yards with the right ammo ? Just curious.

I have a compact .22 that I enjoy plinking with, and a Buckmark that is a better/more accurate shooter. For me, an avg-decent shot but with ****** eyes; I would not be able to hit that small of a group at 25 yds with the compact (would do better with the BM). It has shorter barrel/sight distance vs my Buckmark, and is not as accurate for me.

Again just my .02, but while i find the MP Compact .22 to be a great/fun little shooter; if I wanted more accuracy i'd consider another route.

* edit: added a couple pix for reference; again i'm not the greatest shot and to be honest when I pull the .22's out of the bag its more play time than strictly looking at accuracy. Note the range i go to tops at 10 yds. The BM pic was 6-8 yds, the compact yesterday at 7 yds. Decent groups, but the BM a little more condensed together. So as the compact sees greater distances it will spread out further. Again only speaking for myself.

I have a .22 Compact. Friends at the range who shoot competition with the older S&W target and Ruger pistols like playing with it, but don't consider it a target pistol. It is nothing for accuracy when I compare to my GP100.

I use it for training new shooters, and like plinking in general with it.

Mine is accurate enough for range fun and new shooters but I would not enter a competetion with it.

In my hands the .22 compact is fun. I wouldn't call it accurate but that may be me.

I just sent mine back to S&W after talking to them about the accuracy of my 22 compact. The best I ever got out of mine was a little over 5 inches at 25 meters. That was with only one brand of ammo. Most of the time the best I could get was about 7 inches and worse. The factory has had it since Feb.9th. The last time I checked on it they said they were still looking at it. I have a Buckmark that shoots in the 1 inch area at 25 meters with good ammo every time.

Can I use CCI AR-Tactical ammo in this pistol? It sounds very similar to Mini-Mags, with a differently shaped bullet.

That was the best thing I could say about my 22 Compact. It would eat any thing I put through it even standard velocity stuff.

Default M&P 22 accuracy....

I had a GSG 1911-22 for a few years. I know that a lot people consider them the scum of the pistol world. However, mine was pretty reliable and pretty accurate. It would put automatch into a 1 1/2" group at 10 yds all day long. 50, 60 ,70 rounds, all day. It was no target gun but with me behind it that's as good as it gets.
I have had my M&P 22c for 8-10 months now. Reliable as ever, not a single hiccup, but, it will not produce groups like my GSG did. I don't know if it's because of the shorter barrel/sight picture or the trigger?? Don't know.
The 22c is a far nicer piece, fit and finish is far better than the GSG.
Also I have noticed my rear sight moving. Had to readjust it after the first 200 rounds.

I'm sure with the barrel being only 3 1/2" that accuracy wont be it's main pro.
For most of us who own them, the compact .22 is basically just a fun plinker that will eat most ammo its fed. I'm sure that was it's focus, over being a target type gun.

It definitely is a fun gun! And a real similar feel to my shield.

I don't think you would consider the 22C a target gun. It's more a cheap trainer for the Shield as Tsb3 said. I have two and one has over 35,000 rounds through it. It's also as someone said not picky on what you run though them. I think if you are going to shoot those distances maybe a Ruger Mark IV target might be one to look at.

I have an M&Pc 22 & a Buckmark too, & like others have stated, the M&P is a great little plinker but if you're looking for good accuracy in a 22 handgun it's hard to beat the Browning Buckmark, they are after all actual target pistols

I had lousy accuracy with mine. After I lost the rear sight blade and extractor, I sent it to S&W. Requested a new barrel. They replaced missing parts and I believe a new barrel was installed. Leaded bad and accuracy was still poor. I checked out several at local stores and everyone of them had too many tools marks in the barrel. I guess the last couple of years they have sold them like hot cakes and just don't care.

If accuracy is your main concern I think there are better choices in that price range (Victory comes to mind). The M&P22C is a great little gun and mine has been 100% reliable with all kinds of **** ammo, and it's just as accurate as any other semi-auto with the sights mounted on a slide which is separate from the barrel. I got the M&P as a training aide to somewhat mimic my defensive handguns, for that purpose it's nearly perfect.

I bought a Compact because I wanted something lighter than my bull barreled Ruger MKIII, and didn't expect he same level of accuracy. Sure enough, the Ruger is much easier to make small groups with. The Compact's crunchier trigger and wide front sight just won't let me. But, the Compact is accurate enough and fun to shoot because it is light and handy. Dandy gun to teach younger shooters that can't hold the Ruger up in a shooting stance for as long.

Can't expect great accuracy from a short barreled, inexpensive semi-auto 22 with a very short sight radius. It's really more of a fun plinker. If you want 22LR accuracy, a longer barrel is necessary. S&W makes, or has made, some very accurate 22s. The Victory is decent, but not as accurate at 25 yards as my MK-II or MK-IV Targets (comparing similar 5.5" bull barreled semi-autos). The Victory gets much more accurate with a Volquartsen replacement barrel too. The current 617 revolver is very accurate. My older 17-1 and 17-4 are simply a step above though.

I picked one up as used (sold but never shot) back in early December. It's a great little shooter. No, it's not going to be bullseye accuracy, but it will be perfect for my wife for range fun and popping coons every now and then.

I bought my M&P 22 Compact a couple years ago. It was NIB and included a box of Winchester M22 ammo. I had heard bad things about Winchester 22 ammo but it shoots great in the M&P. Most of my other 22s don't like the M22 ammo. Go figure.

These aren't target guns but do have adjustable sights which is good. They are more accurate than most shooters can manage because of the trigger. If you can master that trigger its pretty accurate.

Enjoy.
