Question M&P 2.0 C.O.R.E were is it ????

Dear M & P Friends,

I am a little confused. Why would the Performance Shop still be cranking out new model of 1.0 version. ( link below)

I like all the 2.0 changes and am waiting for S & W to make the exact gun they just announced with the 2.0 improvement.

Smith needs to get a move on, the Sig 320 RX is considered on of the best buys in pistols right now and selling like hotcake, but Sig can't make them fast enough. Glock is taking a beating right now for lack of a Generation 5 firearm. It seems to me the time is now if Smith wants to gain some market share...

And I am wonder how many people are holding of making a decision on a purchase thinking some new 2.0 version are right around the corner. But now with this last gun I have to wonder if it may be a long time before my dream gun become production really

Thanks for letting me rant a little

The new 2.0 models have a loaded chamber indicator (LCI) in the top middle of the slide behind the barrel hood. It is long and appears to extend into the area that would have to be milled to mount an optic. Thus, it does not appear a 2.0 slide can become a CORE. That's not official from S&W; just an assumption of mine.

The loaded chamber indicator doesn't have to be there, the 4.25" barreled 2.0 guns don't have it. I'm guessing it's on the 5" guns because it was some requirement for the Military Handgun contract S&W submitted the 5" guns for.

They probably haven't made a 2.0 CORE for the same reasons they haven't made a 2.0 compact or the 5" guns without a thumb safety. They just haven't gotten around to it, or they want the fanbois to buy a gun they don't really want (a standard 4.25") then buy another one when they finally make the one they really want (a 5" with no safety, a compact, a core, etc). Worked on me.

I think your confusion, is due to wrong logic. You are assuming they are making a new model with the red dot included, when in reality (if my guess is right) they have included a red dot on the old stock to move it out.

Smith & Wesson rollouts are ALWAYS based on making as much money as possible. You don't release a Shield with no manual safety until you have sold enough of the Shields with safeties. Because some people would never have purchased a second Shield otherwise. You don't release a Bodyguard with no laser until you have sold enough of the model with the laser. Same reason. This is basic economics 101. We will eventually see M&P M2.0 compacts, CORE, Ported, 9mm Shields, etc., etc. but not until they will maximize their profits from doing so. Which is good because it keeps them in business and keeps my stocks in the SWHC profitable. Also since most of the "improvements" are cosmetic or easily made by the end user, there is no reason to get a 2.0 other than how it looks. And it looks cool!

Smile The Plan

Thanks to everyone who replied.

After giving it some thought I decide to :

1. Write Smith and Wesson and ask them where the 2.0 CORE model is at. ( not expect much )

2. Check with Bowie Tactical and see if they have made one yet.

3. Post the question on this forum about removing loaded chamber indicator ignorer to mill the slide

Thanks again

Joe

"Loaded Chamber Ignorer". Now that's funny right there.

Yeah not sure what person thought to put a loaded chamber indicator on the new model but they should be fired. I know I won't be buying a 2.0 even if it's a C.O.R.E. model. And the safety has to go and I like guns with safety like the 1911 not striker guns come on S&W what the heck is going on there really.. And I don't think they thought thru the front slide Serrations not really enough there to do anything with.. well I'll see if the pro model is worth buying if not back to version 1...

The state with strict gun laws like California require the m&p’s to have a loaded chamber indicator. I have purchased several 2.0’s now and none have the indicator.

This is an older thread. At that time, all the 5" 2.0's had the LCI. That is not true anymore, though.

And here we are, a year and a half later (necropost!) and still no 2.0 CORE. Walther has the Q4 TAC that's basically their version of the CORE (S&W owns Walther, by the way). Glock has the MOS. I still have a Gen 1 M&P 9. If S&W doesn't get off their rump and get moving with some new models, I might just buy a Maxim...has an optic mount and rail, everything I need.

I suspect all the people who own 1.0 Core's have already made the modifications that allow them to outperform a stock 2.0 core. I know i have a box of stock Core parts from a couple of guns that are collecting dust.
