Default Picked up a new M&P

So i convinced the wife to let me get a new toy....a shield in 9mm.

Love it so far, going to the range tomorrow. I love the white dot sights. I am giving my BG380 to the wife for when she gets her LTC.

A few funny things. When i got my BG380 i was concerned about printing (rirst gun, laugh if you want... I do when i think about it). Now i have to get used to carrying the shield.

Do you shield owners carry with the 7 or 8 round magazines mostly? As of right now (day 1) i see myself carrying the 7round more

I carry a 9c which is the same dimensions but about 1/3" an inch thicker. I carry the flush mount mag when wearing tighter fitting clothes, and the extension when wearing a baggy sweatshirt or jacket over it.

I carry my Shield with the short mag that has a Pearce Grip Extension on it and carry the long mag as a spare in my front pant pocket in a Snagmag holder.

I carry the shorter mag with a Magguts spring so that I have a total of 9 in the gun.

I just picked up a new Shield in 9mm today myself. Congrats!

I'll carry w/the flush fitting mag. My experience is that length of the handle is the most important dimension when it comes to "printing". The width of the gun and handle is most important when it comes to carrying comfort (my opinion).

I can't seem to ween myself off my Airweight 38, but when I do tote something else, it's my Shield9. I'm a pocket carry fan, so it's the 7-rd mag, for me as well ( and usually with the spare 8-rd mag in a cargo pocket).

I had been carrying with the 7 round magazine with pierce grip extension but recently changed to the 8 round magazine. When I compared the length of the two I discovered that the 7 round magazine with pinky extension was actually longer than the standard 8 round magazine. The part of the gun that prints, on me at least, is the front of the grip when carried at a cant and the 8 round mag does not print as much. See the attached pictures.

So day 1 was a little adjustment. I actually went bowling with it on me and felt fine. It is interesting coming from a BG380, it makes the shield seem big when i known it isnt. I will do some homework and read the manuel.

Random question: do all guns come with a spent casing? Mine didnt. I know most states are different (in Massachusetts). Dont really care much, just curious

I've been carrying the 9mm Shield since November. I use the 8 round magazine with one in the chamber. I feel I have a better grip with the slightly longer magazine.

Sounds like you are adjusting to the Shield just fine. It is a nice pistol that is easily carried.
None of my recent S&W purchases come with a spent shell. If you are looking for a date of manufacture on your pistol, There is a date printed on the label (small numbers in the middle of the label) that might help you.

A 438 in the pocket has been my goto carry piece as well. I think I'll carry this shield more though; it's really slim and contoured nicely.

My PC shield didn't come with a spent casing. I purchased it on 2/17 in CT.

I bought my Shield 9 two years ago here in NC...came with a test fired casing. Same with the other S&W purchased the year before.

If you like the 7 round more, I'll trade you my 7 for your 8.

It probably depends on how you carry it.

I carry my Shield either in Thunderwear for deep concealment, or Appendix inside the Waistband (AIWB). T'wear is just like AIWB, but below the belt inside the trousers.

Carried AIWB at the 1 o'clock position, the length of the grip with a good holster holding the gun close to the body is less of an issue than when carrying behind the hip. Your midsection is wider and flatter than the area behind your hip for most people without a big gut.

I always want to carry as many rounds as I can. So, I use the Magguts spring, follower and baseplate to increase the 8-round OEM mag to 10, plus one in the chamber, gives me 11 in the gun. That costs me 1/4" more than the OEM 8-round mag, which is not noticeable. I use a 2nd 10-round mag as a backup (21 total).

Smith & Wesson Shield | MagGuts

This setup is comfortable and does not print. I can wear just a loose T-shirt (dark colored) over the AIWB gun in the summer with no printing.

The +2 has been out about six months. I have tested both my mags with my range ammo, FMJ 115 grn, with no problems through about 200 rounds. I have tested with my carry ammo, Barnes TAC-XPD 115 grn hollow points, about 30 rounds, no issues. GtG IMO.
