Shield roll pens moving out of place.
I have about 450 rounds out of my pc shield and I love it. I've had no problems other then the front fiber optic insert fall out. I have noticed that the roll pen under the take down latch keeps moving out to the left. It's moved out so much that it has prevented me from sliding the take down latch fully to disassemble. I use a punch to push it back in and it's fine while carrying but after the range it works it's way out again.
Anyone else ever have this problem? Would installing a new roll pen fix this?

Since you haven't received a reply, I'll add my $.02.
I don't have a shield, I might be incorrect, but I believe its your trigger pin that is walking out. You can find some discussions on this problem.
My FS 40 pin gave me the same problem. S&W sent me a shipping label, looked at my m&p and said no problem.... grrrrrrr. Still had the problem after it was returned.
I decided to replace my trigger with an Apex flat trigger ( not for this reason, just wanted a better trigger). Don't know what I did during the replacement that fixed my issue, but the pin no longer walks.
The bad news is that the pin is difficult to replace without a slave pin (see Apex trigger videos), so I'm not suggesting you take it out... I don't have a good suggestion for you. Some have replaced the block and pin (they have said it only costs $15).
Wish I had a good suggestion, but you're not the first, and it is frustrating. At least you can read up, and hopefully find some good suggestions.

Thank you for the reply.
I'm actually talking about the pen located under and toward the front of the takedown lever.
I've actually had no problem with the trigger pen walking out.

Call S&W and tell them about it. They should send a shipping label to ship it back.

I was hoping to avoid that.

They may have used the wrong roll pin? Or an out of spec one. Send it back. It should not be moving.
It is the pin tht hold the trigger block in place. Why not ask s&w for a few pins and replace it yourself? You could find a pin with slightly larger diameter....And you can always deform the pin slightly where it will contact the trigger block so it will stick there.

It's not impossible for some particular coil pin to end up being undersized. The coil pins used in the Shields are a different size than those in the regular M&P's, BTW.
Rather than fool around with it, or try to substitute some different type or size of pin, it would be best for it to be inspected and replaced by a factory tech (unless you happen to know a S&W armorer who has gone through the Shield class and who could check it for you).
There were some instances (not a lot) where some of the larger coil pins used in the regular M&P's have been a little too small (as received from a vendor). I had that happen with the original coil pin for the sear housing block in one of my M&P's ('08), where it walked out a little a couple of times after several range sessions, and a replacement pin corrected it. (I had a few extra pins as an armorer.)
Call them and let them handle it for you. That way you won't risk unintentionally causing a different problem by trying to repair it yourself.

Is it just a coil pin that he can replace himself? Or is a special tool required?
I also believe he got a slightly undersized pin...

Thanks for the replies guys.
I actually spoke to S&w about this when I called about the front fiber optic sight falling out. The rep said it would take a little while for the pen to settle down. At that time, it wasn't coming out so much that it prevented me from sliding the latch, I just had to use a little force to get it turned all the way.
I'm going to call S&w and see what they say. My range also has a S&w armorer on staff so I'll talk to him as well.

Here's my two-bits for what it's worth. I've purchased several surplus Hi Powers for project guns. A few roll pins have been loose. I use a roll-pin punch to remove the pin, then use a slightly larger tapered punch and just "tap"
it into one end to VERY SLIGHTLY open it up. Then with my roll pin punch. tap the pin back into place-small end first. Important, however, to keep everything in place with a pin punch while doing this. It works, but you not want to fool with it. Just sayin'

Yeah I usually don't mind working on my guns but I think with this I'll have an armorer do it.
