Ok, so I took my M&P full size .40 in for some new sights and my gunsmith talked me into these "lollipop" style. Big white dot up front, solid rear sight with a single line.
I get the idea of how I'm supposed to aim with the round dot just above the line but I started out at 5 yards to test then went out to 10, and 15. My plan was to set the rear sight so I could loc tite it.
I was using range targets with the big diamond. I'm no sharp shooter, but I've always had good groupings on target out to about 30 yards with this gun.
So maybe it was me, the new apex trigger, or handgrip IDK but I was consistently shooting low. Aiming for the center of course, but shots landing just below the diamond. Still grouped ok, just very low.
I raised the lollipop to aim for the top of the diamond, and was hitting the center. Are you supposed to aim high with these?
Don't wanna loc tite till I'm on target at 25 yards. I'll go back this weekend and try for 15,20, and 25-30. Just thought I would see if any of you had ideas. Kinda different when your used to the traditional 3 dot sights.

Did your gunsmith have any suggestions or input on what you are looking at since he likely has some familiarity with these sights?

I can't answer your question about your "lollipop" sights but I have to ask some questions. How many rounds did you fire during this session? Also what is the reason for "loc tite"? Is the sight moving? Have you tried different ammo in your tests?
I have a FS M&P40 and it is scary accurate for me. I'm am still using the original sights and stock trigger.

Some sights, particularly for self defense, are registered so that you COVER the desired point of Impact with the dot of the front sight. A large front dot with a simple rear is typical of this kind of sight. Precision is not as important with these sights as quick acquisition and alignment for self defense purposes.

A more precise alignment comes with target registered sights where the point of impact is ABOVE the front sight. If you use a target hold with defensive sights you will get the results you are experiencing.

Hi, I ran through about 100 rounds. These rear sights are only held on by the one hex screw and I don't want it to pop off while I'm target shooting.
I always use wwb 180 g because I carry PDX1 bonded 180g.

Yes these sights were designed to increase quick response point and shoot, not for pin point accuracy. I really like them, just have to get used to aiming a little high to ensure I hit the chest cavity if I can't get them dialed in.
They do make a difference, just new to me since like I said I'm trained on the 3 dot. Let you know more after I try this weekend and a little more distance.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but when somebody shows me one of the trick new sights and says it shoots consistently high/low, and it does the same for me, I suggest they bought a sight that is wrong for their particular gun. And I've seen more than one of them.
Incidentally, my favorite way of speeding acquisition is to replace the front sight with the correct height of Fiber Optic (FO), so there remains the option of a flash picture with the FO or taking a precise aim with the metal frame outline.

Sounds like your lollypop sights might be XS Big Dots. Go to their site, and watch the vids. There is a small learning curve, but once you're used to them, you'll never want anything else. The fastest acquisition sight on the market.
