Default The need for...

Did not know where else to post this so I picked here because I think I see it asked here the most.

Why does everyone need them to tell them what gun or caliber to buy. Are people not able to make their own descion anymore? I get getting advice because this gun is getting a bad rep and things of that nature. But what's so hard about choosing a safety model over a non safety or vis-versa?

Friends don't let friends buy Taurus.

I believe that most people have their mind made up but want reassurance. That or they may be new to the gun world. I asked my fair share of "noob" or reassurance questions. I still remember my "should i buy a BG380" question...even though i was sold on it for ultimate conceal.

I do not understand the safety questions. Either you like them or you done (i like them)

In the world of the forum it pays to have a high sense of self assurance and a sense of humor. Over in the realm of Weber grills it is the same life or death (you are an idiot if your opinion is different) arguments over handles on charcoal grills!

It is easier to ask a question on a forum than doing there own research.

Yes, some people seem to be trolling for an argument with such questions, which is why I generally avoid them. I sometimes post on them if it seems to be a genuine question.

Don't like the posts like "the dress question joke:"
"Do I look best in the blue or red dress?"
"I think, the blue."
"What!! Are you saying I look BAD in RED, you insensitive *&!!&%$"

Because you don't know what you don't know. Like your signature, "Friend don't let friends buy Taurus" how would one know? If you Google reviews they're majority ok. May not be good but most people say something like "I fired 100 rounds without issue". If you look at reviews on Buds the Taurus PT 111 or something had over 300 four and five star glowing reviews. This is THE gun that will do it all and do it 100%. Of course it seems like maybe the reviews were either paid for or possibly Taurus employees wrote it. Whatever the case is a new person seeing that will think it's the best of the best of the best. The smart thing to do would be to ask questions

The other question I can't stand is "What is the best ......?" There is rarely a "best" of anything, we all have preferences and opinions of what works for us but that doesn't always make it "best".

I don't know - why do other people state their opinion as the be-all end-all? Of the two I generally find it is easier to get along with the former than the latter - they're usually more open minded...

Agreed many of these questions often seem trivial and redundant.
That said, the S&W forum is known for it civility and tolerance.
If anybody doesn't like a particular thread, it's easy enough just to move on. There are plenty of others who don't seem to mind contributing to these conversations.

My take aways from this thread:

1: It seems we need to have the mods forward all queries to some of you for pre-approval.

2: "friends don't let friends buy Taurus" is not a PSA. It is an insultory statement aimed at lauding a sense of superiority over us blunt skulls who are pleased with the performance of our Tauri.

To deride someone's choice of firearm before being asked serves no good purpose.

It's just a signature and my opinion that's all. Take it for what it's worth just a silly signature. You own/buy Taurus good for you that's not going to bother me at all just like my signature should not bother anyone. That just brings us back around to the need for someone to validate their Taurus/gun purchase.

Friends don't let friends buy Taurus.

It is "just a signature", but it expresses a VERY arrogant and condescending attitude.

If that is who you are, then fine, thanks for showing us all your true colors.

If that isn't who you are or who you want to be known as around here, take the polite hints and change it.

Your choice - and the choice you make says a lot about you IMO. But that's just my (and obviously a few other people's) opinion - FWIW.

In my once collection of over 70 firearms, I've owned most makes and models, some good, some I couldn't shoot worth a darn. I still have a Taurus M85ch which is my wife's gun and she loves it. Also have a M94 4in. and never a problem. Sold off most all after eye operation which put an end to my shooting days. Wish I had some of them back. But my point is, no matter which firearm you purchase, be it because of price, caliber, size, if it works and fits your needs, what more can you ask for?

I don't need validation. My Taurus 1911 is as reliable as any firearm I own and as accurate as any of them that are not hand built specifically as target guns.

A good share of my opinions would get me banned if I used tham as a signature line. I consider your whole post and specifically your signature line trolling.

I concur.

"Needing someone to validate" one's opinion is certainly no worse than needing to make oneself feel or appear superior by making snide snarky comments attempting to INvalidate someone else's choices. Wouldn't you agree?

If you don't like something don't buy it. No need to try to belittle others whose opinions and EXPERIENCES are different than yours. I've owned and still own several Taurus firearms and have yet to experience any more problems with them than I have with any other brand - which is to say essentially no problems of any significance.

Hence the unsolicited and in-your-face "opinion" is unwelcome and off-putting.

A better question is....... Does there post should I buy "A" or should I buy "B" really help them decide?
The ones I have seen have just as many loves as they do hates, seems like it would make it more confusing.
