M&P sheild Mag Release Rusting
Like some others mine constantly rusts. I noticed the new one i have is marked differently than the original. It has a "W" stamped in one of the recessed areas, and they both have a "1" stamped in a seperate recess. I hope the finish is better on this new one.

Would you mind posting what you do and use to try to prevent the rusting?

I gave up on the old one as the finish was gone. I use a IWB carry holster and it constantly rusts. I tried CLP, rem oil over the years . Im thinking a heavier tacky type lube would do better but i just wanted to start over with a new part. I'm hoping it was a bad batch of parts as everyone is not affected and am excited that this one was different markings on it.

First welcome to the forum. That is strange. Have you talked to S&W customer service?
I just double checked mine. Over two years old; over 600 rounds through it and not a sign of rust.

I caught the rusty mag button on my Shield 9mm just short of seizing in the grip, after reading about it on this forum.
Cleaned the rust off and applied the same lube I use on my slide grooves, TW25B. The rust has not resurfaced.

Hopefully, it was a bad batch and your rust problem is gone. I have read a few other posts of them rusting too. I wear IWB too and fortunately, mine has never rusted. I have used BreakFree CLP (don't know if there are different brands of clp) on all of my old S&W blued duty revolvers, sigs, hk's and now my M&P's since the early 80's and luckily have never had one rust.

Thanks, Yes I talked with them and they were very helpful as usual. I would like to add that mine is carried in pretty extreme conditions. Dusty construction areas, then holstered after getting sweaty. The overall finish has held up great except the mag catch.
