What that says to me is the rumors about a new 2.0 Shield and Bodyguard may have some validity.

rebates
nothing would surprise me this summer.
"summer sizzlers" were comming in summer months in the past.
I just know that inventory is backing up at many factories and they will need to clear it out.
Ruger LCP old model price reduction with intro if new model,
ammo shortage is over, ammo prices are down, no gun panic due to election results,if it's not new or collectible its just another polymer gun at this point.
(sorry,polymer fans...)
Crimson Trace just started $50 back on lasergrips, lots of other rebates poised to start I bet. coincidentally 4/30 is fiscal year end at S&W.
hold on til 4/1 and see.
I speak from
35 years in retail, distributor, and rep business

In the M&P 2.0 section of the company's Investor Presentation document they write "Multiple new product additions and line extensions in 2017".

It seems that since President Trump won the election gun sales are slumping.
Now that people don't have to worry about Hillary taking actions to outlaw guns many people have stopped, or at least slowed down with their gun purchases.
That has put the gun industry in a slump so it looks like rebates may be the tool to get sales going again.

Guess what I was going down to my local dealer to do today with my "spare" 9mm Shield.
And guess what I just bought earlier this month.
Yes, my timing is awful.

My local Dealer told me yesterday that Smith was going to offer a $75 rebate on the Shields starting April 1. He said that the Springfield promotion going on now with the 4 free mags was really hurting sales for the other manufacturers.

Let's see. . .should I fill up my car today or buy a new gun? The cost to manufacture these new black guns is so amazingly low. We are nowhere near the price bottom.

Also 442's - 642's for $309

My BG38 is almost worn to the point of being unserviceable. I would not mind replacing it with a no lock 442.

It would be great if that includes the Model 442-1 (not just the 442-2).

The biggest question I have: Will the $75 rebate include the new Shield .45?

This figures, I've got a Shield 9mm waiting to be picked up at my FFL. Always have the best timing...!
I got it on sale from Palmetto, $320 shipped, so not a bad deal, but still mad... Got this one for my wife, maybe I'll get a Sheild .45 with the rebate!

Well, I just bought a Shield .45 earlier this month so join the club. I hate having the rug pulled out from underneath me on a recent purchase. Dang! And this on top of the Shield .45 lock-back problem some are experiencing.
BTW, I tried to do more research today. Some dealers think the rebate is going to include the Shield .45 and some say no... but as best as I can tell, there is no official word out of the mothership on that yet.

No mention of lock or no lock, so I assume whatever you find at your store.
Edit: there are two SKU #'s.
$75 on all caliber Shields but not all models, $50 on Bodyguard.....well at least at a somewhat local dealer anyways.

Those 442/642 SKU numbers are for the no locks! I hope that dealer does shipping!
On the Shield .45, that may be the only version your dealer carries. Right now, that one (without a thumb safety) is not MA-Compliant.

BTW, this sale may well push the Shields closer to that 2,000,000 mark.

But $75.00 is still $75.00. That would keep me in Depends for over a month!

Gah, I bought my Shield 9mm 2 weeks ago... oh well, got it for just under $330 delivered. Would have been nice to get $75 bucks back. Oh well, great gun, I like it.
But, now I can justify getting the Shield in .45...
Also wouldn't mind a 442 no lock.

I wonder if S&W will give me credit for my BG38 if I get it back from the guy who just bought it. I sold it for $200 and I was a little apprehensive about asking that much.

Gotta pray the rebate will help S&W totally sell out of Shield 9's.
Then just maybe...maybe..they will introduce the new shield 2.0 before the 2018 shot show.....but not likely....guess i am doomed to wait another year...

I'll believe it when I see it. You know what they say about things that are too good to be true right? I just do not see the Shield being discounted way south of $300.

I went to the S&W website to check on the conditions for a rebate. I am not active duty or retired military, I only served 7 years. I don't see any other discounts.
Is there something I am missing?

The promotion doesn't start until April 1. If people knew waiting 5 days would save them $75 there'd be no sales until then.

Well, what dealers around me are doing is putting all their Shield, Bodyguard and SD sales on layaway until Saturday... ... otherwise they would be out of business last week and this week too.
I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop... namely, what are the other manufacturers going to do to compete, especially Ruger? I already cancelled my longstanding order for a new MA-compliant Ruger American Compact 9mm pending word on any possible Ruger retaliatory rebates.

One LGS is doing sale if you "pre-order" by the 31st. That way thye get the sales mounting up and the customer gets the rebate when you pick it up a few days later. May also get their orders in ahead of the crowd.
----------------------------------
Pre-Order your pistols before Friday , March 31 Special pricing before rebate
-SW BodyGuard 380 w/green laser $404* .......after mail in $50 rebate $354
-SW Bodyguard No Laser................$292* ...... after mail in $50 rebate $242
-SW 9mm or 40 shield.....................$340*.........after mail in $75 rebate $265
-Upgrade to the Performance Ported shield ( eligible for the $75 mail in rebate)
-SW SD40 VE or SD9 VE...............$300*.......... after mail in $50 rebate $250
*all price plus tax and $10 background
Pre-orders have to be in by Friday March 31 for these prices....................Guns to be picked up on or after April 1 to be eligible for rebate

But $75.00 is still $75.00. That would keep me in Depends for over a month!

Two more days to go and nothing from S&W yet about a rebate. The rebate for $75 is supposed to start April 1st... You know what April 1st is? Hope I'm wrong, but we'll see.
