Improvements/Enhancements for the .45 Shield
Although pleased (out of the box) with my .45 Shield, I am curious if any improvements can be made to the gun. Do any of you have an opinion, or can offer suggestions from your experience?

The only thing I've done to mine is to add a Pearce grip extension to the 6 round magazine. I'm thinking about night sights, but I haven't really decided on that. Otherwise, I don't think it needs anything else.

Only thing I did, or doing, to mine is put a Pachmayr sleeve on it to dampen some of the recoil and add a little width to the grip. If Apex develops a hard tactical sear for it, I may look at it. Otherwise, it's fine just as it is.

Got one on the way. I'll be putting on Ameriglo i-dot night sights and installing the Apex aluminum trigger with duty/carry kit. This is the same set-up I have on my full size and on the 9mm Shield I recently sold. For me that's all I need.

I just put a set of TRUEGLO TFX on my Shield 45. I like the AMERIGLO also but the I-Dot was to sharp against my bare skin (in the 4 o'clock position on my belt) I opted for the TRUEGLO.

Could I ask what positive difference(s) the Apex aluminum trigger with duty/carry kit makes? Thank you.

To me for my usage the Shield is fine out of the box with one exception and that would be that i would like night sites but really can't find any i like and not real sure the tritium vile's can take the recoil over extended time....

My TRUEGLO can handle the 45 no problem.

Only thing I did with mine was flatten the "peaks" of the stippled texture a bit with the glazed side of an old tile. Otherwise, the little compact works well for me box stock. I've honestly never said to myself it could stand some improvement in all the time I've owned/shot it.
Maybe I'm lucky and just have one of the "good" ones. Who knows?

I can attest that my trit sights have held up to abuse and daily carry with thousands of rounds over the last few years in my 9mm. I have not had any issues and love the fact that I can locate my gun in low to no light.

Novak Mega-Dot tritium front/wide notch plain black rear and Apex carry kit for mine. Do not care for the Apex replacement trigger because of the sharp edges I feel on the inner trigger safety. Tried it on my 9mm Shield; went back to the factory.
Don't really feel the need for anything else. S&W got it right, just as they did with the 9mm Shield.
