My BG 380 broke a firing pin in 12/2015. Customer Service sent a replacement and I had it installed. I had lost confidence in the gun and it's become a bit of a safe queen (have cc it a few times in the last year, but only when I get tired of the sig p238). I love the sig, but it is a bit of a "rock in your pocket" compared to the BG. I am trying to decide if I should trust the BG or trade it in for a ruger (gasp) LCP II.

So my question. I have searched the forums for BG firing pin problems and almost all of them are from 2011. I haven't found anything later than my 12/15 post. Has S&W finally fixed the firing pin problem or am I not searching hard enough?

There is no issues with the firing pin, just because you broke one it doesn't mean there is a common problem. It could happen if you sit and dry fire the gun a lot of times.

A quick search on the forum will reveal that there was definitely at least a minor problem with the BG firing pin in its infancy. Mine broke on a safety check after cleaning it. It has been 15 months since I repaired mine. I am trying to decide if I should invest better sights (Big Dots) or a different gun for pocket carry on day hikes.

The ruger (gasp) LCP II has almost too good of a trigger for a pocket carry gun...and a simple search on the ruger forum indicates that their new design is not without its own faults.

I'm okay with there having been a problem with the firing pins in early production run guns. I'm looking to see if the problem was fixed or is it an inherent design flaw. Fixed...I'm fine. If now five or six years into the production, there is a persistent problem...I'm not so fine.

I have not heard of any problems lately . the old bodyguards with the lazer did have some problems, but that was years ago

I had my no laser BG .380 for two problem free years when light strike problems began to show up at the range. While I like the gun I lost confidence in it and got the old style LCP just as Ruger was phasing them out, on sale at Gander Mt for $199.

Thanks for the replies. I also have not heard of any new problems with the firing pin. Mine was the last that I found. I did watch a youtube video on the new Galloway short stroke trigger. At the end there is a warning that dry firing without a snap cap will break the firing pin.

So, I'm thinking that the firing pin problem has been addressed (although I have a CT version).

To be safe I'm looking at a Kahr P380. IDK maybe a different set of worries with it?
