Question on trade in
I have a shield 9mm about 1 year old, no marks, still looks new, probably 300 rounds thru it, didn't have it long when i got a 9c for daily carry. I really like the looks of the new FDE shields, so I would like to trade my old one for the FDE model. What kind of money should I get in trade in on the standard shield? Or if I sold the shield to an individual, how much do they typically sell for?

You will never do as well trading in as you will selling it outright. Most trade in values are less than half of what they are selling them for new. I always recommend trying to sell it and then using the proceeds to buy a new gun. You would actually (probably) be money ahead to find a local cerakote applicator and have them refinish the frame of your Shield in FDE.

Trade in value will be about $150 if you're lucky. Because these sell on the internet for $350 new, you just can't get much out of them in trade.
If you sell it yourself, I think you can get $300 for it. That is much better.
Even so, I think mlk18 has a point. It will be less expensive to get it Cerakoted. Of course, if you get it coated, that will only make the value lower if you decide to sell it later on.

As previously said, sell it outright. Trading in a gun is no different than trading in a car. You lose a pile of money. If you do trade it in shop around. some shops are fair on trades and others will rape you without even giving you a kiss.

Yep, used prices in the short term will be about $200 for a standard shield, $300 for a PC or factory night sight model. If the rebates go away, they may come back, until potential 2.0 models come out or the market gets even softer.

I feel the same way, but the price offered by the gun shop was actually more than I would expect, since the guns NEW are really low-priced, now. The gun shop has to make a profit to stay in business... and if they sell a used one for NEAR the "new gun" price, their profit is almost non-existent.
I'd try selling it locally -- especially if there are any in-state gun forums (with "classified" sections) so you have to worry less about costly SHIPPING.
