So, since I'm a gotta know the truth guy, I called the store.
Those guns are brand new, though this particular store only has the 9. The guy was taken aback when I asked if they were used.

I imagine that they pushed a lot into the distribution channels pre-election expecting a mad rush to buy, and things are calming down for now.
I certainly won't cry over having paid more for mine. I wanted it, I got one when none were to be had, it has been rendered functional 100%, and I have no need to sell it.

Retail price at the local gun shop is $410 for the Shield without a safety. There are a lot of them in stock locally.
This rebate program is really going to put the hurt on our local gun dealers.

The rebate is done through S&W, how would that hurt the LGS?

Do you think "they" care. Just movin' stock brother. Good deals to be had everywhere on S&W plastic guns and rifles. There are nice new ARs available now in the $400s. Hold out, when that inventory starts chewing at 'em they'll be even cheaper. Truth be known, that's all these plastic things are worth. "They" know it and the prices will be coming down more.

I suspect S&W is discounting the Gen 1 Shields in anticipation of the 2.0 version. Saw the same thing happen with Ruger LCP. When the LCP II came out, price for the original went south to below $200.

Hope this helps if your Sheild is reilable (more than likely it is. ) Then your golden. I look at all mine in the collection (Smiths ,Springfields, Rugers, and others) not at what they are worth or what they sell for today. Mine wont ever be sold they will be passed down.

I just got a .45 Shield for $369 shipped, my receiving dealer charged $15 for their end. I'm satisfied with the price. The 9 I sold to buy it originally ran me $329 + another $30 for shipping and the same receiving dealer's fee. Both no thumb safety models, I probably could've waited a bit for another drop but wanted to get a new carry gun now.

I don't think there will be too many Shield 1.0 left in stock after June 30.
Shield sales are well on the way to 2,000,000.

Locally, with tax a Shield would be $444.85. After the rebate it would be $369.85 locally. You can order a Shield from Bud's Gun Shop for less than that. With the rebate, online FFL's will draw in those who are on the fence about buying a Shield and will kill the local market.

Reports from other forums say this promo won't begin until Apr 1st. You may wish to wait until it begins ( assuming it's not an April Fools joke). Currently, only the Nation's Finest rebate is on, and it excludes Shields.

A LGS here is selling Shield 9's NIB for 390.00 out the door (tax included). I am sure if need be they have a "little" wiggle room even at that price. After Rebate that's 315.00 and if pressed could be lower. Online stores are going to charge taxes and shipping (did see one free shipping) then you will have to pay the FFL transfer fee. Best to check around and know all the charges before you buy online.

It's well known a plastic Glock costs 80 bucks to make. Selling them at 150 is a great profit. So yes those plastic things can go way lower than 300 bucks and always should have been except for the buyers that feel they are higher priced values.

The cost is $80? That would be amazing margin. Maybe it costs $80 to manufacturer. Now add engineering, insurance, transportation, marketing, warranty R&D. I don't know the all in cost, but it seems unlikely to be $80. That being said, I would expect manufacturers will start to reduce production to match demand and prices will settle somewhere lower than in recent history, bit above where they are, in general, now. We may loose a manufacturer or two in the next couple of years as well if sales and or prices slip enough.

Indeed there is... it's a sale sponsored by S&W, starts Saturday 4/1. Many shops are already advertising their prices for the event.
I'm thinking of getting a Shield .40 to round out my Shield "collection".

i bought my .45 Shield 3 weeks ago for $390. The local dealer said several manufacturers were dropping wholesale prices, leaving him paying more for his inventory than others were selling new for. This is not just a S&W issue. You can pre order a RAP 9c for $349 here, that's $120 less than two months ago. At least S&W isn't mking the dealers take the hit, they are rebating directly.

^^^Ruger American Pistol Compact
I just bought another Shield 45 from Grab A Gun for $339 plus free ship. My FFL does free transfers. After rebate $264. I couldn't resist. It'll be my CCW Shield 45's back up.

Unless you live in the same state that the company operates out of, most online stores don't charge sales tax, and many have free shipping. Some still charge a 3% up charge for credit card but two I found didn't. And 3 dealers near me charge $0 for FFL transfers. I just ordered 3 MP9 Shields for $260 each after rebate and that includes an additional factory magazine. I went through Kentucky Gun Company but I found several others that had free shipping and no taxes and great prices.

Just noted that Whittaker's is sold out of all shield 9's and 45.
(at 299.99 before rebate not hard to understand).
Grab a gun says they have a few in stock but a little higher in price.
And apparently Buds has some MA approved or with night sights or PC models. Buds is the highest I have seen on price yet...never have understood there pricing?????????

Yea, Buds has high prices compared to others. Sportsman Outdoor Superstore has them in stock for $239.99 after rebate, with no tax, free shipping and zero CC fees. Gunbuyer.com has the 9mm, before rebate, with safety version for $309, and the no safety version for $319. Free shipping/no sales tax.

I was going to order from Whittaker's Saturday morning and they were slow in changing their price from $329 to the sale price of $299. Tried to order several times from 6 am - 7 am but the $329 price kept coming up.
Then I realized that Whittaker's charges $18 for shipping while Grabagun charges $7. (IIRC)
I went ahead and ordered from Grabagun because they were up and running with their sales price.
Even with Grabagun's $15 higher price for the gun, I only paid $6 more due to the lower shipping price. And my FFL was already on file with Grabagun. Didn't want to be left out in the cold over $6.

What, Rugers going down in price too, who'da thunk it.
Maybe they'll put them in Cracker Jack boxes.

If I didn't just buy a crapload of ammo I would have gotten one of each caliber to keep my 45 company. With rebate my 45 is well under the $300 mark and I paid $399 day before elections.

these rebates are only the beginning. other mfgers are going to be dropping prices like crazy (except maybe CZ, they're hard to get already)... they had TONS of inventory ready for a Killary win, but now they're stuck with a **** tone of overstock and lower demand. sad for them, good for us

Oh mannn, I just got my Shield last month. Month too soon and maybe a version too soon. This one I picked up was ABOUT to be inherited to my gf when she starts to carry, but even after 300-400 rounds she still can't rack the slide and is looking at the G43.
If the 2.0 has a nicer trigger (was eyeing the PC mainly for the slightly noticeable trigger improvement) then I will be sad.
