Bodyguard 380 Barrel
So yesterday I bought a new S&W M&P Bodyguard 380, no laser. I have read on several forums that the barrels in the little pistols are MIM. The barrel doesn't look MIM to me but I'm no expert. I thought someone on this forum may be able to answer my question.
Thanks

I don't know if the barrel is MIM or not...I doubt it. But I love my BG...fun, carries great, and is a blast to shoot. I did have a problem with mine recently though and had to send it in for repair. I'm hoping to get it back from S&W soon.
Enjoy!

While I don't know if the barrel on my no laser M&P .380 is MIM I've put over 800 trouble free rounds through it. I've had a couple of light strikes with Winchester White Box but a second pull ignited the round in each case.

I have had only two light strikes in 1,000 rds. Both from hard primers in Freedom Munitions Ball Ammo. Second and third strikes failed to ignite the cartridges. I can't blame it on the gun!

Re: Bodyguard 380 Barrel
I looked at the barrel in the thread. I bought my wife one of the Bodyguards with lasers when they first came out. Her barrel has the seam mark and is obviously MIM.
Mine has no marks like that. It has 380 on the top of the barrel and BG380 on the side. If it's MIM, then I'll have to live with it or sell it. That being said, I am not happy with a MIM barrel on a gun marked S&W. I have plenty of revolvers and most all have MIM parts, not the barrels. Even Taurus isn't using MIM barrels.
I know MIM has its cheerleaders. I am not one of them for the use on barrels or cylinders. MIM is purely a cost saving method for companies. What bothers me the most is I bough my son one of the guns when I bought mine.

I think you need not worry about an MIM barrel in Your BG380.
I bought mine about the same time and mine is not MIM! Mine has no seam and is stamped .380 AUTO on the barrel hood. It is a series, ECBxxxx.

Well I heard from S&W yesterday by email. The barrels on the Bodyguard 380's are in fact MIM. It does not make any difference in the crease is in the top of the barrel or not, still MIM. I will probably keep the gun because there is little to no resale value in these pocket 380s.
I'm not happy having a MIM barrel 2 feet from my face though. I think S&W should be up front with customers about the MIM barrel in the spec sheets.

Just read this, and get one del today, I may refuse to take it, quit buying from S&W and see how fast they start the forges again. This really peeves me, they do it on BG they'll start on all, GOODGY S&W, GREED CLOSED THE DOORS.

I bought a BG. The trigger was way too long. It was the only pistol I ever owned where I had to push the mag release part way in to load a magazine. I know some like this pistol, I do not. I sold it NIB without ever firing it. I bought a Ruger Custom LCP and am happy with it, considering it is the only striker fired plastic covered pistol I own. I only carry it on the farm. Otherwise I carry a gen. three .45 pistol, which I am quite happy with.
