Default Shield 45 vs 9/40 size difference

For those that own and carried both. I have read all the specs, watched the video size comparisons. Is there a noticeable difference when actually carrying them?

I have/had a Shield 9 but I gave it to my Mom after she got her CCW permit. I have been carrying my Glock 30s since. I absolutely love the 30s, but I'd like something a little thinner for summer t shirt weather carry. I want the 45 shield, but I don't want to regret getting one that feels noticeably larger IWB.

Nope, that is the answer from someone with 9mm and .45 Shield.

I also have a Glock 30SF. The difference in carrying the Shield and Glock...huge.

Only time you'll notice the 45 is slightly larger, is if you try to slide a dedicated 9/40 sight pusher tool, over it. I had to hand file just a bit off the pusher. Other than that, they both fit in my 9mm holster.

I find that a good belt goes along way. I carry both the 9 and the 45 in the same FOXX IWB holster with no noticeable difference.

The barrel/slide length is slightly longer on the .45, no more than a quarter inch. The length of the grip is slightly longer on the .45, I think I remember no more than a quarter inch. The slide on the .45 is very slightly wider than the 9/.40. The .45 will fit some 9/.40 holsters and not some others. Some kydex holsters with the kydex moulded tightly around the end of the barrel/slide will not work due to the very slightly longer length of the .45. A closed bottom leather holster fitted closely to the end of the barrel for 9/.40's may not work either. Otherwise, as far as I can tell, the polymer parts of the frame on all these guns is very, very close to the exact same except for the length of the grip/magzine base plate and the very slightly wider width of the grip area on the .45.

For my sized hand, the .45 Shield fits me best. I shoot it better than I do my 9MM Shield. I like them both very much, but the .45 is my favorite. The .45 magazine is very slightly wider than the 9/.40 so the mag may or may not fit a closely fitted mag carrier for the smaller calibers. If it fits a leather mag pouch, it may stretch is slightly and cause the smaller caliber mags to fit a bit more loosely in those. You just have to check and see about holster and mag carrier fit. Good news is that these items are now pretty easy to find for the .45 if necessary.

.45 is a little longer, otherwise the same dimensions.

I have both the 9mm and the .45 Shield.. If the .45 is any bigger, it is inconsequential. Both fit in the same holster and both are a joy to carry.. I love my .45 Shield.

I ordered a 45 Shield without safety today after work. At Gander Mountain they have Shields on sale for $375. They also have a 15% off everything. So after tax, it was $341.05. After I send in the rebate, it will put the cost of the gun at $266.05. One heck of a deal. I couldn't pass it up!

Well that deal fell through. Gander Mountain told me today that too many people have ordered from them and the vendor is all out. I told them I was ok with back order, but they said they will probably be closed and bankrupt by the time the vendor has them in stock. They still hadn't charged my card, so that is why I called and checked on the order. I am not a happy person. Local gun shops want $400-420.

Palmetto...same good deal

Whittakers..same good deal

As to the size difference question?

When the mag keeps falling out and wont lock.....its from your 9mm

Dont ask me how I know.

I've never actually bought a gun online and had it shipped to a FFL. But for instance it's 355 shipped from Whittakers. Plus a 20-30 transfer fee. So 375 to 385. I don't know if I would have to pay tax. But the deal at gander was 341 out the door.

I had talked to corporate or headquarters for Gander, they were the ones that let me know the order was cancelled. I called the local store that I placed the order at and talked to the manager. He said he would honor the $341 price out the door for the 45 Shield with a safety that they have in stock. I really don't want the safety model, but I will probably buy it. The manager was a really nice guy, I was impressed. Usually that store is a total fail.

The safety on the Shield is small, unobtrusive and very positive on or off. I leave mine off and act like it is not there which is pretty easy.

I bought a Shield 45 from Academy yesterday. Academy policy is to price match plus an additional 5% off. They honored the Gander Mountain sale price minus the 15% and gave their 5% so I got the pistol for 303.00 + the tax

Yes I have a Shield 9 with the safety. I just prefer not to have it on there.
