In March after a number of years of ownership and at least a few thousand rounds, I broke my M&P22. Not sure how I broke it, but the right side of the manual safety lever snapped off. Which does not make a lot of sense because I am not left handed and never use the right side of the lever. I was shooting it, felt something hit my right hand, presumed it was a shell casing, and kept shooting. I looked down at the clean cement floor and saw a piece of black plastic. I considered just smoothing out the brake and having it be non-ambi, but since S&W has such a great warranty I figured I might as well have it repaired.
I sent off an email to S&W and 2 days later I got an email back with a mailing label to send it in for repairs. I boxed it up and called FedEx to have it picked up at my office. FedEx picked it up the same day. Just under 3 weeks later I got an email tracking number that my M&P22 was on its way back to me. I sent it in the original factory box but did not include anything but the gun itself (no mag, manual, tools, etc.). I even made the special request of having it shipped back to my office and not my home. The gun arrived at my office on schedule with a letter stating the lever was replaced, as was the recoil spring. The gun was also much cleaner when it came back then it was when I sent it off. They were even nice enough not to touch my aftermarket sights. I took it to the range and put a quick 50 rounds through it with no issues. I even put 10 rounds through it left handed, snapping the safety lever on and off, just to make sure the safety lever was solid on that side.
This is the 3rd gun I have sent it to Smith, which is pretty impressive since I own about 25-30 Smiths. The other two I sent in being a 5943 (with trigger issues) and a 422 (with extraction issues). All three experiences left me equally pleased and equally impressed with S&W's customer service. Just one more reason why the majority of my handgun collection is stamped with an S and a W.
