New Sheild 45, Like It, But...
So, got my "Rebate" Sheild 45. Really like the gun, nice size, finish looks good. Very excited to finally have it because I really like .45acp for carry and it's a great size to carry concealed.
But, this one has an issue with the trigger. The trigger pull itself is ok, not as nice as ones that I've tried at various gun stores, but ok. My Shield 9 actually has a lighter pull than this However, this trigger has a hitch when returning from the rear/fired position. It's a noticeable hitch/catch/delay about half way back to the forward position. I've managed to have the trigger get stuck in the rear/fired position a few times when pulling the trigger and then very slowly releasing the trigger. It won't get stuck if I just let go suddenly, but can if I slowly release it...
I'm curious if anyone else has had this type of issue with the Shield trigger? If so, did it work itself out, or did it need to be repaired at the Mothership...?
I've taken the slide off, cleaned the gun and lubed contact points, but still the same hitch in the trigger release. None of my other pistols have this issue, including my Sheild 9, so it's definitely not 'normal.' Going to call S&W about this and see if they will take it in for a check, I'm sure they will...
Definitely disappointed that I have to go through these hoops on a new gun. I believe that this should have been caught before leaving the factory. But, after reading a lot of threads on the Shields, I'm not terribly surprised. I'm sure they'll make it right, but it seems that S&W needs to step up their quality game. I know these are relatively inexpensive guns, but I would think they still want to keep their reputation for producing a quality product... This said, this is my first issue with a S&W product out of the gate.

I'm guessing the hitch will smooth out with some dry fire. Make sure you field strip and oil those 7 spots as in the manual. It may just need some lube. As long as everything works it should be okay.

This may be a rough surface or tight fit on the pin where the trigger pivots. If you want to take that apart, the Apex videos show how to disassemble (and re-assemble!). Then you can polish up those contact points and ensure there are no burrs or debris.
Ironically, lube is generally a good idea but it may also prevent the parts from wearing in initially. You might want to wipe out the lube, then dry fire a bunch of times (with a snap cap) until the trigger wears in or breaks in a bit, then lube it again.
All things considered, my guess is this problem will go away shortly. Good luck with your Shield.

If it doesn't clear up...
...definitely call the factory. No need for a new gun. They should fix it no prob.

It almost sounds like a problem with the reset?

I'd call S&W. Even if it's something you could eventually find and fix, it's a new gun and they should fix it.

Shoot it....250 rds....shoot it hard.....you're not going to let the trigger out slowly when shooting it anyway. Then see how it is.
Does anyone ever really "feel or hear" the reset when shooting?

This. U should feel and hear the click of the reset, but it certainly shouldn't stick.

Call S&W. They will send you a shipping label and fix it for you. It may take two or three weeks but do it any way. They are great at fixing their problems.

I agree. This is definitely not the trigger reset, I'm very familiar with what that feels like. This is more of a resistance/sticking that is slowing the return. I've never had a pistol with a trigger slowed down like this, including my Shield 9.
Interesting that no one seems to have had this particular experience with their Shield before...
