Does anyone know why the M&P 2.0 are illegal to purchase in the state they are made, MA?
I own both the M&P 9 and 9c. I was looking to upgrade to the new models but my local dealer told me he can't sell them in MA but he did not understand our Attorney General's reasoning or if she has any reasoning.

I just checked the S&W state compliant firearms web page, and there is no 2.0 MA compliant version available.

They don't need a "why" down in Boss-town..they just do it and the Ma. libby populous applauds. My suggestion: move. Fwiw..my FFL sells all the S&W autoloaders and has not felt the wrath of the AG. I think the "rules" are so convoluted even the AGs office doesn't know what from what.

The gun grabbers creap has gotten ridiculous. How does the AG get to declare one handgun acceptible and the next, almost identical handgun, illegal. A draconian, yet ineffective, gun law that is capricious and arbitrary.

What a bunch of fruitloop states, Ma. on one coast and Ca. on ther other. Thank goodness I live in one of the Free States of America. Gun Voters in the Anti States need to work to overturn this nonsense.

It takes time to get a new pistol (or new version of an old pistol) tested and onto the Massachusetts roster of allowed handguns... a.k.a., the EOPSS list. Takes an average of about a year or so, although some seem to go a lot faster or slower than others. Then there is the secret list... a.k.a., the AG's Regs. Smith & Wesson typically has few problems there because they tend to go overboard (i.e., "belt and suspenders" approach) on complying with her "consumer protection" rules for MA-compliant guns.

The M2.0's could appear on the EOPSS list anytime between now and the end of 2017... or not at all if S&W decides not to spend the money for MA-compliant certification (highly unlikely).

Such is life in the nanny state called Massachusetts.

FWIW, I believe that they are not illegal to purchase; they are illegal to sell, at least illegal for a dealer to sell. This usually makes no practical difference. Sometimes it does, or used to.

If you don't already have all the guns you want, you live in the wrong state.

Eventually, the 2.0 will likely show up on the roster. Even Smith couldn't say when. Are the 2.0's that much of an improvement over Gen 1?
