Maybe you're limp wristing it. These are really small pistols and you really need to hold on to it. When I first shot mine, I had the same issue. I really wrapped around the grip and got a good hold on it and works everytime.

Sometimes not having the magazines fully seated can cause this. Might have been that your cycling the action smoothed things up also.
When I first shot my Kimber it had one jam and it locked back on the round before the last round. I found the magazine wasn't fully in place and I have never had that problem since. Magazines can play havac on guns.

I ONCE BOUGHT A CHEESEBURGER AND IT WASNT GOOD SO I PUT KETCHUP ON IT AND IT WAS GREAT

Thanks for the useless and uninformative post OP. No mention of ammo used each time or if you let someone else shoot it to see if it was you or the firearm

My M&P 9mm isn't a "really small pistol".

Sorry if this is the wrong place, new combined with old man on forums bad combo!

New BG380 here love everything but the serrations, My old fingers are thin skinned and those serrations just slide through them, had both of the shields and that was the same problem. SW needs to do away with these fish scales and give us some serious serrations, I HATE THEM, have to put tape on everyone of these sorry serrations.

Did you clean and oil it before you took it to the range the first time or was it a direct trip to the range from where you bought it?

He loves the gun! There are no problems to solve, like limp wristing, wrong ammo, didn't clean it.

Sounds like it was just a bit stiff and needing some breaking in. It is likely to get even better

Welcome! I too just tried out my new M & P 9 for the first time last week, made sure the bore was clear and put a little Break Free on the sliding parts, it worked without a hitch. It's possible yours just had a burr or something was catching in the magazine that smoothed itself out with cycling the action. Enjoy and be safe!

Simply taking it out of the box and filling it with ammo will surely result in some kind of problem. While it should work that way it seldom does. I spent many hours cleaning, working on the trigger and working the action as best I could (RA) before putting ammo through it. I didn't have a single problem the first time out except for the manual sights. They're off a little but the CT laser is spot on at 10 yards.

Fear of the recoil causing pain in my arthritic wrist went away on the first round. It wasn't long before I tried "full semi-auto". What a great piece of machinery!

I have a full size M&P 9 and a Shield 9. The only problems I have had have been with a friend trying my gun (first time shooter "limp wrist") and when I shot reloads that I bought in bulk. NEVER a problem when I shot with good ammo.

Why are people always blaming ammo when someone is having problems with a pistol. If you have a gun, it should work with all kinds of ammo.

The only firearm I have ever kept that didn't like all ammo was because it had historic value.

I would never own or carry a firearm that can only shoot certain brands or weight of ammo unless it has some history behind it

I've never had a problem with any ammo. I've tried a bunch of different ammo in my pistols and never a single issue. From the cheapest to fmj to jhp and never had a single issue

A lot of semi-auto's just need a little break in , 50 to 200 rounds to get everything working smoothly.....it's common , don't get upset about it.
Keep it clean and lubricated ...everything will be fine.

Glad you got the problem solved and welcome to the forum.
Gary

Not sure if everyone is blaming anmo but sometimes it is the culprit cheap ****** ammo. I'm not sure who your implying this too but. I was just simply asking what kind it was factory reloads re manufactured and what he done to solve it. So yes ammo does play a big factor in the gun going bang. I am glad the man is liking his gun now and enjoying shooting just like the rest of us do. I am thankful for when I have problems there is a lot of great people on here thank you. Have a good day!

Please, please, please Steved13 is right! -- The OP loves the gun, we don't know what gun he has (might be any M&P 9 mm), it is not a Bodyguard 380, therefore it is not really very small, but regardless HE HAS NO PROBLEMS (except his typing and thread title)

First, welcome to the forum and glad you got the problem ironed out. Some of them just take a little more breaking in than others. My M&P gave me a couple of problems at first but after about 200 rounds it has been flawless.

I meant in general, every single hole thread I see here or anywhere else where people have problems with their guns, there's always a bunch of replies about check the ammo they're using. In a sense it was meant to you but also to everyone else in general

Welcome to the forum, I feel a compelling need to apologize for the way we welcomed you to the board. I can only say that the snarky comments you were greeted with do not represent the forum as a whole.
I am glad you were able to correct the stove piping with you pistol by working the slide.
You may not realize that typing in all caps is considered to be yelling or shouting to many, I do understand that it is easier to see and in some ways an easier way to type as my Father loved to type that way.
You got yourself a good gun, please enjoy it for many years to come.

Welcome to the forum. Almost ANY semi-auto will give problems out of the box especially if loaded and shot without a good cleaning - experienced it myself with a few! Heck even my brand new Henry .357 Big Boy was a little rough right out of the box - and with nothing more than a shot of Rem Oil which probably did more harm than good.

I also would like to apologize for some of the receptions you have gotten.

There is a long standing, respected member here who, having given up an eye for his country, uses cap locks. It helps him see better as he's typing.

Type in #6 font size if you wish. We still get your meaning.
He would be more than thankful if one of his friends or family showed him where the zoom button is so he doesn't have to use caps and can read everything everyone else writes too

I'm like him. I can't hear either as I'm getting older.
