Default Did S&W Fix Your M&P 380 Light Strike Issue?

When the non-safety version of the M&P 380 was introduced, I picked one up. I'll admit I was a little reluctant because of the light strike issues I had heard about. But the love I have for my other M&Ps overode my concerns. Well, mine does seem to suffer from the issue. I just got my return label and the pistol will be heading home for service tomorrow. I'm just curious what results those of you who sent yours in for light strikes have had?? Thanks!

Well I did do the search and I'll point out a few things:

The first link is regarding a "broken firing pin". The second asks and discusses if the issue has been addressed by S&W with their production pistols. The last string also asks if new production models have been changed to address the issue. I went through all three again and didn't find any discussion on what experience an owner had by sending theirs in for repair.

Conversely I asked if anyone had sent their pistol for service and what their experience with that was. Not if newer production units have fewer instances of the problem, not for information about broken firing pins and finally realizing the vast majority of responses in the third link are that they don't have an issue with light strikes. NO ONE discussed what, if any results they had when S&W examined and/or repaired their gun that had light strikes.

So I believe this is DIFFERENT and I'm still interested in personal experiences for those owners that sent their pistol in to address the issue. I will share mine when the pistol is returned.

Default Seems to work after S&W repairs

I said in my last post that I'd share my experience with S&W C.S. regarding the repair of the light strike issues I had with my M&P 380, no laser, no safety version. It was returned today via FedEx. I took the pistol apart, examined it, cleaned it, lubed it, went outside and gave it a go (I live in a rural area). I ran 50 rounds of Fiocchi 95 gr ball ammo. Each and every round fired - this was the most problematic ammo I used previously.

While I realize this isn't necessarily a definitive test, I would call this an awesome start. Looking at the included repair order under Performed service: it says "Evaluate / Repair Replace Firing Pin/Striker Replace Slide". Apparently they also removed my painted sights and put them on the new slide. Everything else about the pistol seems the same, the Talon grips were still there and really you couldn't tell anything had changed - except it went bang every time I pulled the trigger.

The order says it was received on 5/3, but I'm guessing that's when it was checked in. My tracking showed it arrived there 3 or 4 days before then. The repair took just a few days over 4 weeks and if it continues to fire like it did today, I will be satisfied. Of course S&W covered everything and so far, my faith is restored.

Thanks.

Shield9mm,

You were the first to respond to the firing pin thread that I posted and you referred to in this thread. In the referred thread reply #3, I politely responded that a search of the boards yielded early model bodyguards with an apparent firing pin problem and that the last thread on the on the topic of broken firing pins was 15 months earlier...started by ME. In that there were no new threads started in 15 months, my referred to thread was appropriate to attempt to find any new information on the problem.

Your reply then, as now, was rude, confrontational, and offered no benefit the poster with information directed towards the specific problem/concern. If everyone on these boards were to follow your advice there would be no need to maintain the board...just shut it down and make it a "reference only" web site because all that could be asked has been asked. Everyone has a bad day now and again. BUT, it appears YOU have a problem. May I politely suggest that you contemplate the purpose of a forum such as this and, if you find any thread particularly irksome to you, do what we all do...hit the back button and click on a different thread that might interest you. There is no need to be rude and unwelcoming.

Hope you have a nice day.

PaJerry
