My agency currently issues Glock 22 and 23 40's. They decided to switch to 9mm and wanted to T&E Sigs, Glocks, and S&W M&P9. For almost three months they attempted to get an M&P for testing. Called S&W, area rep, and distributor multiple times. Finally told 'Smith and Wesson isn't releasing any M&P 2.0s for T&E at this time'. So Sheriff decided to just stay with the Glocks. Why would Smith and Wesson DO this?
Just curious but, are there any acquisition regs that the Sheriff's dept has to follow for testing? I know S&W is an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer but they may not want any outside source to actually see how "in compliance" they really are.
I've got the feeling that S&W may be the victim of their own success on this one. My LGS isn't even stocking the 2.0 until they sell off their inventory of original M&Ps. People are clamoring for the 2.0 and are ignoring the originals. I think S&W wants that to clear before making any large commitments to quantities of the new pistol. I think that the $75 rebate on the Shields is involved in this also. Look for a "2.0" version of that pistol in the near future.
Good question. Seems very unlike the company to ignore an opportunity to add another Law Enforcement agency to the community of M&P auto users. I can't even begin to think of a reason. Someone must understand that competition is very much a factor for the company to worry about....Perhaps the current management is not very good at being receptive to the negative impact that the lack of concern about selling the product will have on the Law Enforcement community. Just can't really believe that.... Marketing and sales certainly must have weighed in......
Maybe, as has been noted, that the 2.0 models are creating a certain level of concern and confusion that hasn't been addressed properly. Of course, years ago, this matter wouldn't be at this stage of "public discussion." The Times, they are a 'changing......
