Yes they'll get holster wear. How much depends on the finish, holster and how often you carry it

I packed mine in a couple of Milt Sparks leather holsters, and in Kydex for a few years before going back to 9mm. There is holster wear on the slide, but no seriously worn patches of bright metal or anything (the gun also got a lot of range use, including draws from those holsters).

These are not great photos but they illustrate the finish wear to an M&P 45 with over 8k rounds down range when carried in mostly leather daily for five years.... The M&P finish is at least as good as any factory finish on the market. My other M&Ps don't look any worse.

Any gun that sees time in a holster will show wear. That's life. The M&P has an incredibly hard finish. It's very unlikely that you'll see significant wear if a leather holster is used. Kydex is more tough on the finish.

I'd like to address this because it's not entirely accurate. Carry is different than use. I know some guys that have been carrying a particular gun for decades and they don't show much wear. I know others who've been carrying for only a few years and their guns show a lot of wear. Case in point, my gun:

The difference isn't in how much it's carried, but how much it's used. The gun above has seen thousands and thousands of presentations from the holster. It's the in-and-out of the holster that make the wear. Most of that wear happened from a Kydex holster.

The M&P has a much harder finish than the gun above. I also have an M&P 45 that also has thousands of presentations from the holster. It has only been used in a leather holster. It doesn't show hardly any wear.
