Took my brand new 45 Shield to the range today after field level disassembly and lubrication. Only had one box of S&B 230 ball ammo. Had 6 nose up jams (cartridge goes about 50% into chamber and locks up). I was able to hit the rear of the slide very sharply and the pistol went into battery and I was able to then fire each round. Jams occurred with 6- and 7-round mags.
OAL of the rounds 1.26.

Any suggestions other to try another brand of ammo? Anyone have issues with S&B?

Well yes, I've had issues with S&B ammo, in the past. Mine were with a revolver but required a trip back to the factory to be resolved.

I shoot S&B quite often and no issues. I would suggest disassembly of the magazines. Clean and lightly lube the insides. Look at the follower. Mine had some mold burrs that I cut off and sanded smooth. Actually, I sanded the whole follower as smooth as I could. I used my wife's manicure bar with the four sides. Shhhh.

Re-assembly of the 7 rounder is a bit of a B*tch. When you load make sure the cartridges are seated as far back as possible. The slide has those weird swirl marks to help seat the bullets to the rear. Just tap the magazine on a table top to make sure.

It sounds like a lot but the magazine will loosen up after a short bit. Make sure you lube your pistol hitting the areas in the manual. Initially, nothing wrong with a bit extra oil just because it's new. Make sure you oil the barrel just in front of the chamber. Keeps it from sticking.

I would recommend at least 200 rounds to break in to see if any issues repeat and or clear up. After that carry on...

Coincidentally I just went to the range today- shot about 100 rounds S&B 230g ball in my Shield 45- not one issue. Previous to today I have put through about another 100 of this same ammo with no issues.

I measured my OAL of of few rounds from some other boxes and they are at 1.26 as well. Initially with my gun however I had the mag dropping issue- I replaced the mag followers with the new redesigned ones that S&W CS sent me- and have had no issues since.

My sister was able to limp wrist a Glock that I have put hundreds of rounds through without issue. I didn't think it was possible but it was her first time with a handgun and it happened

The Shield 45 is a little touchy on OAL with certain bullet profiles as the lands and grooves are tight up to the chamber.
I would remove the barrel and take a box of the ammo you are using and try the 'plunk' test to make sure the ammo drops in and does not stick at all when coming out. Could be an OAL problem, bullet profile problem or crimp issue. Make sure the round sits flush to hood of barrel or ever so slightly below it.

100% reliable today with several brands of ammo. Two different shooters. Only thing I changed was remove the Tetra Grease from the rails and used liberal quantity of FP-10. Will keeping testing before considering it completely reliable.

When you load your mags, smack the back side of the full mag against the heel of your other hand to set all rounds completely to the rear of the magazine. There is very little clearance front to back for the .45ACP rounds in these mags, and the tip of the bullet may be in contact with the front wall of the mag, which can cause problems. I typically perform this action on any pistol mag I load, but it's important to do so with the .45 Shield. Compare the S&B to other ammo you may have. It may be very slightly longer in OAL.

I think you answered your own question........Use only Remington or Winchester ammo...... I have the same problem with my Sig P238 any ammo other than the above two mentioned well lock it up tighter than a , well you know what....

Yes, used Winchester and Federal. Plus I smacked the loaded mags on my hand to ensure they were all the way "back" - thanks folks! ����

Fired Winchester SXT 230 gr (1.21 OAL); Winchester Silver Tip 185 gr (1.21 OAL); Federal HST 230 Gr (1.21 OAL); and Speer Gold Dot HP 230 (1.20 OAL). All functioned 100%. The only jams I had were some of the S&B 230 FMJ (1.26 OAL). I am detecting a pattern here. Eliminating the S&B for use in this pistol. Works fine in other .45 ACP pistols for me.
