Default dark streaks in barrel

I got a shield 45 a few days ago and noticed that three of the lands in the barrel were dark--as if blued. I cleaned it, put 175 (flawless) rounds through it, and cleaned it. The dark streaks were still there so I tried 3 different solvents with a bronze brush followed by a patch with JB bore paste.....still there. Any idea what this might be?

I am not a metallurgist but sounds like a little discoloring from heat from machining? Doesn't sound like an issue to be concerned with unless it has become brittle from too much heat?
A call to S&W to describe what you see may put you at ease. Glad to hear it shoots well, I love mine!

Bet S&W will tell you "just mfg variation" and no issue. On your end, you say "flawless" operation. No problem until there's a problem....

If you're getting flawless operation and satisfactory accuracy, just carry on. I once had a "flawed" barrel replaced with a new one .....big mistake on my part , it wasn't as accurate and plagued with feeding problems. Tight chamber and little throat....I wished I had never looked down the old barrel and got upset about a perceived "flaw"!
You just might want to keep that puppy.

All pistols are test fired before leaving the factory. The streaks might be copper from that. It is difficult to remove so a simple cleaning may not touch it.

Unhappy

It shot great. The dark areas weren't copper--I cleaned it with 4 progressively stronger solvents and a bronze brush. I finished with JB paste on a patch for about 20 passes up and down the bore. Nothing touched those streaks. I contacted customer service and they sent me a label to send in the entire gun for inspection. Hope I am not sorry! I have owned and shot maybe 75 handguns in my life ( a sickness, I know) and have never seen anything like this in a new gun. Anyone know what their turnaround time is these days? I miss it already!

If it's shooting great I wouldn't send it off right away. With the rebate a lot of new Shield owners are clogging the system with returns for everything. If you read through these forums you will see lead times of 6-8 weeks. Some longer, some less. I would shoot it until the lead times are down to days. Who knows, by then maybe the streaks may be gone.
