Shield 9 performance center trigger feels grainy
I just picked up an m&p shield 9 performance center pistol. I thought it was supposed to have a smooth trigger. Smooth at first then grainy feel towards the end of the pull. Is this normal?
Thanks

Like you said it is suppose to have better trigger, probably just needs to be broken in. Take off the slide and push in the striker block safety a couple of times mostly the grittiness comes from the striker block binding.

When I remove the slide it is smooth. I think the rough action happens when it hits the button on the slide to push the striker. Is that normal?

That button is the striker safety. With your slide off, use your finger or a small tool and push the plunger down. Does it feel "gritty" or rough? If so, there's your roughness.
You have several options. Swap it out for an aftermarket piece, remove it and polish it, shoot it as is until it wears itself in and smoothes out, or (my personal favorite option) lube the heck out of it and then shoot it as is.

How many rounds?
That is a typical issue with the Shield, but my standard smoothened out after 3-400 rounds and dry fire. I can manually press it without feeling any issue.
My ported one still has some burrs internally and it's at 300 rounds, but I don't feel it when shooting and am confident it'll sort itself out. I got the Performance Center so I wouldn't have to tear into the slide.

Is this something I need to send back to s&w to have them fix?

Honestly, there is nothing to fix. What I don't understand is they see Apex making improvements that work. Why don't they adopt the geometry in their performance sears? If they took the three biggest "upgrades" and offered them included that would tap a good market.

I have only shot it once and was short on time, so only 50 rounds through it. Hopefully it smooth out.

Stop finger banging it and go shoot. Get on a timer and start running some drills and I promise you'll never notice it.

Yeh, I got the "Bleek Gilliam" response from several people. Now, I have shot the hell out of the little 45 shield and the trigger is not getting any better. The grind is about to drive me crazy. Can't concentrate on anything else but the grind. Slow target times, poor target acquisition from drawing! Going to use the $75 rebate towards a trigger job. Might also be your best bet.

trigger job, Apex USB might be enough if it's just gritty and you like the pull as is.
I've got a PC9L core that has a striker block that looks exactly like the apex one I bought , so at least one guy over at S&W knows how to do these right.
