Has anyone tried to polish the slide on a Shield?

How are you dealing with oxidation on your polished Glock slide?

South FL?
Sounds like rust city to me.
If you want shiny, maybe hard chrome would be a better idea.

I've seen pictures where it was done, the slide is stainless steel so that should limit corrosion. The Melonite coating (or whatever the "name du jour" is not) is tough to remove. Not my cup of tea for a look, but then I don't have to look at it.

Polish Slide?
I didn't know S&W made any slides in Poland.

^ I just did and found this:
Ouch! Not sure how that happens in 12 hours.
Just FYI just because it's "stainless steel" doesn't mean it's completely rust-proof. It's just rust resistant.
I bought a spare 9mm barrel for my Sig 40, wasn't too abrasive with it so it wasn't full polished (the coating was stubborn). I coat it with oil like any other barrel and I keep it in a plastic ziplock bag.
I think it'll just be higher maintenance but I too like the two-tone look, just haven't tried it.

That looks nice. Coated the barrel too? If so, I wonder if reduced clearances might cause it to wear off at high spots, etc.

Yes, but remember that coating is removed before coating is applied. And wear is wear.

Polish slide ?
That looks nice !!! I didn't polished the slide, but did the barrel myself and haven't had any rust issues, once in a while I wipe down the slide and barrel with CLP.

Slides can be bead blasted and they'll hold up just fine. There are companies that have been doing them for years with good results.

A great candidate for Cerakote. I do them for $40 to Forum members.

Isn't melonite an electrochemical process that gets into the metal vs just on the metal?
If so, I'd imagine you couldn't remove the melonite, just the resulting color.
Of course, (or at least according to my wife) I could be and probably am wrong.
