Default New Shield 45-Grips?

I got my new Shield 45 in yesterday, along with a nice Desantis holster. So, I figured I'd carry it around the house and yard just to see how she felt.

The rough texture on the grips, while they're probably great for shooting, suck for carrying. Against bare belly skin they're pretty rough, and uncomfortable. So, I put on a T shirt to put a light barrier between the grips and my skin. That worked good for protecting my skin. However, the grips enjoyed collecting fibers from my T shirt. That rough texture loves to collect lint. So, upon removing my gun from it's holster I have a white fuzzy grips, LOL. Anybody else suffering from white fuzzy grips??!

I've looked online for the Talon grips that will fit the Shield 45. I can find ones for the 9 and 40, but not the 45. Can anyone point me in the right direction for Talon grips that will fit the 45 Shield? I do enjoy Talon grips, and have them on both my Glocks. I like the texture of the rubber Talon grips, and they DON'T collect lint.

mley1,
You might try try this. If you are careful doing it, you won't mess up your gun. If this doesn't work, then you can try some of the aftermarket "grips" or adhesive stuff and see what happens. Take a piece of sandpaper and wrap it around a small piece of inch thick wood. Carefully knock of the top of that sharp texture in the inside of the grip frame (next to your body). Go slow and easy. All you want to do is take off the sharp points and only on the portion of the grip that touches your skin or shirt. Sand just a bit and try it. If not good, sand a bit more. Remember, you can continue to remove material but you can't put any back.

Doing this relieves the rough sharp surface area where it touches you and leaves the rest of the grip surface intact so that you still get the benefit of that great (for me!) grip texture on the Shield .45. I'd suggest grit texture of 180 or above. Even 400 grit will do the job. I've heard of a person using one of his wife's fingernail files to do this job. I think he had to buy her a new one after he finished though!!

What I really like about this method is that you only modify the area that touches your skin. You only want to remove enough so that it's comfortable for you and only in the specific area where it touches. Other than maybe taking off more than you need, you really can't mess it up if you are careful. Give it a try and see what happens. Again, sand just a little and try it before sanding again! Good luck!!

I sanded the grip on my Shield 45. I used 200 grit sand paper.
I just held the sandpaper in my hand and used very light pressure - very light pressure.

I was surprised how little effort was needed. A little bit goes a long way.

It made all the difference.

I believe I'll try that y'all. I love the gun. I won't get to shoot it though until next week. I'm working all through the weekend. The mags are a bit stiff and hard to load, but I expect they'll loosen up with use. I did order a mag loader though to save my thumbs.

I think the stiffness in the mags is partly a result of how close the rounds fit into them. If the round is just a touch over length specs it may cause an issue.

talon rubber grips or hogue beaver tail grip could help without having to alter the texture.

Talon offers them for the .45.
You have to choose the caliber.

TALON Gun Grips for Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm/ .40

I've also have had great results with TractionGrips.
They're cheaper, but to me same quality.
Pick your poison.

The Hogue Handall Beavertail is also an option. Probably adds more thickness though.

Bike tire inner tube stretched over and trimmed....perfect and virtually no added girth but just enough.

Yes, Talon has them....they have been on my 45 since I purchased it 8 months ago....When you go to talon's web site you have to specify Shield 45 under the grip choice.

Parts of the .45 Shield's grips bothered me. As an interim solution I just put some black electrical tape over the annoying portions. I may take a little sandpaper to the offending portions but for the moment it works--cheap, effective, and instantly removable.

I must admit that the bicycle inner tube app appeals to my inner Scrooge, though.

I do like the gun so far. In a world of blah it actually fills a niche nicely at a decent price.

I have NO issues with the grips, I usually wear shirt to keep the grip away from my body, Haven't noticed it collecting fibers.
In the rare occasions I don't wear a t shirt it doesn't seem to be that bad

I used the wifes emory board and just touched the grips up a little. The still have great traction for shooting, but are less abrasive on bare skin. I think I can live with them this way. At least I carry it this way for a while.

Yea, I can see my wife asking "honey, what's that rash you have on your side", and my reply being "baby, that's gun rash, there's no cure".

Anyone consider using 3M cold shrink on their grip? Someone has rebranded this electrical insulation as "regrip" for tool handles and whatnot.

400 grit sandpaper and knockdown the texture. with 400 grit it's easy cuz you don't take off too much at a time

The Talons were out of stock for several weeks in both colors. Black are back in as of this week, green still N/A. Mine are on the way. I love them on my 9mm and as a desk jockey most of the time, my soft and supple hands much prefer the Talon after 10 or12 magazines!

I shot my gun yesterday. 150 rounds and all were flawless. It shot great. It felt great. The little bit of sanding I did with the Emory board worked well. I have the pistol on now, under my shirt against bare skin. It's comfortable. No need for the Talons right now.

Picked my .45 up Sat. and ran 50 rounds Sun.
Really like the texture on the grip, and in limited use seems pretty good.
I am thinking about trying the Hogue beavertail though, as the grip felt a little thin for my hand.
For about $12 it may be worth a shot.

Avg. hands, long fingers, lol.
I can get 2/3 of my pinky on the short one, but might give the Pearce a shot as well.
Haven't really checked into accessories yet, thanks for the heads up.
