Question BUD'S Detroit PD M&P .40's

BUD'S GUNS has the M&P .40 1.0 unissued Detroit PD marked guns with night sights, 3 mags, palm swells, and a hard case. Does anyone here have one of these? If so, your opinion on it? And, when they state "unissued" is it still a new, unfired gun? Besides the night sights, has anything special been done to the gun for police use?

I got one about a year ago. Paid $399, I think. It was new, un-issued. As advertised, and a great shooter after an apex sear and polish all the other fire control surfaces. Nite sights were/are now shot, but I didn't care. It's a range gun for me, and cool that being in SE Michigan, it's a DPD gun. I even picked up a used 9mm barrell, and some used mags, and now carry twice the ammo to the range. Soft handloads and shoot it all day.

I got one , great gun , great price . I'm not a semi guy but thought I should try a couple , just for the experience . Glad I bought mine . I'm fine with the trigger , just as it came .

Thumbs up

I just recently bought one. It came with 3 mags, palm swells, lock, and all of the paperwork. The gun looks brand new, unfired. It came in a blue S&W box with a few scratches on it (the box, not the gun). The night sights are very strong.
I want to buy a Sig .357 barrel and shoot some Sig .357 ammo. Where is a good place to get a .357 & 9mm barrel for my gun? Also, can anyone recommend some good .357 target rounds?
I also need some 9mm mags. Any suggestions?
I have heard mixed opinions about shooting .357 ammo from this gun. What gives?
Thanks to all that reply!

The major difference between Police and regular models is usually night sights (12 years to half life) and an extra magazine. Otherwise, same stuff. Most manufacturers do the same.

I picked up a Glock 23 for my son that was a police issue in fair condition. Had about 4k rounds through it. I live near Glock and they upgraded all the internals to new including the magazines while I waited.

I originally wanted a G23, but a lot of Glock owners said that it wasn't safe to use a .357 barrel it. I then decided on the G32 , but there are very few LE trade ins. If you can find one. And, I didn't want to buy a new G32.
My son had owned a used Detroit PD .40 M&P, but it was kind of beat up. The unissued ones are good to go. Mine looks brand new!

I had a 357 sig M&P. It was from the lot that wouldn't extract. This was long ago. Sometime around 2009 - 2011. Ammo is ridiculously expensive

Got both my 9mm and .357 Storm Lake barrels off Ebay (though there is always the chance that Midway might have the .357 factory barrel in stock for less. Wasn't in my case.) Best place I know of currently for .357 Sig ammo is SG Ammo. About $16 a box for Speer Lawman 125gr.

In mine, 165gr .40 and the Speer hit about the same POI. 115gr 9mm a couple inches higher. Both Storm Lake barrels group well.

Midway does have the .357 barrel right now for $87. If you really wanted it, I'd get it before they go out of stock. For 9mm, I would get a conversion barrel. Some have used the factory barrel, but I just wasn't going to take the risk.

I looked at the Bud's guns from DPD but purchased an M&P 40 used as a police trade in from Streichers via gunbroker for $269. Came with night sights, 2 mags, box, and original paperwork. Cleaned up nicely, has holster wear that is very minor, and otherwise looks great and functions as it should. The $130 difference wasn't worth it to me after reading that the sights were not guaranteed and some were reported to be dim. I called S&W and they offered to send me a Medium palm swell for free b/c mine only came with the large. Overall, very happy with the pistol and am now waiting on the 357Sig barrel from Midway that was on sale

I bought a 40c off of Gunbroker.com last summer. It has Detroit PD on the slide along with the PD #. It wasn't advertised as new, but it sure looked like it had never been fired. It's a good shooter & stupid accurate. I haven't seen many Detroit PD 40c's around & really like mine. Good luck with your decision.
