Shield 9 trigger
O M G! Are they ALL that bad? I've been debating on the 9 and stopped at my LGS to check them out. All the ones I tried had absolutely horrid triggers. You pull and it hits a wall, then you have to overcome that wall and get an audible "click" after which you're still pulling until you hit another wall and another "click" and then it fires. I'm probably the least picky person when it comes to triggers......I like most striker triggers and don't see anything special with 1911 triggers.....but this was just BAD. The 45 Shield has a much better trigger bit I don't want a 45 nor do I want the PRO or to buy parts to swap.

Well......SHOULDNT be that bad. My new one is fairly nice. The wifes was a little tight when new a year ago but a couple K-rds downrange and its slick and settled in about 6.5.
I DID recently put in the Apex sear just to try and it dropped it down to 5 even....really sweet. No polishing or extra works (yet)
Plus the 9's come dry as a bone from the factory.

The performance center is suppose to have a better trigger out of the box, but it comes at a higher price. I love the M&P line, but unfortunately their trigger needs some improvement. I have apex kits on all my guns and the improvement is like night and day.

It has it's pros/cons compared to a Shield with the Apex sear. I have both to play with and while I like the weight of the Apex sear, the PC has a crisper break.

I agree with Dad_Roman. Not all M&P triggers are bad, but occasionally stiff gets thru that is just plain bad. The Shield triggers I've played with require a little more pressure than a standard M&P, but they shouldn't be unmanageable. Don't buy that one...

I am puzzled by the poor Shield triggers. I am almost wondering if the shop might have had some Massachusetts guns by mistake.
For those of you who are not familiar, S&W makes Shields and M&Ps for Massachusetts that have 10 lb triggers to be complaint with state regulations. The Massachusetts triggers are horrible. There is some variation between guns, but they range from poor to downright unshootable.
It is rare, but I have heard of cases where Massachusetts guns wound up in other states, and people were rightfully unhappy with them. I can assure you that no one in Massachusetts is happy with them either.
I have handled a number of free state (non-Massachusetts) Shields and their triggers were fine. The 45 Shields may be slightly better, but the factory standard 9mm shields have been perfectly acceptable.
So if you have handled Shield pistols with a poor trigger, then definitely don't buy one. But you might want to handle some others when you get the chance, because most of them are perfectly acceptable.

These aren't heavy triggers. They just have a feeling like they're getting caught on something half way through and you have to add more pressure to overcome that, then there is more take up and finally hit a wall and a click. When you overcome whatever it's getting caught on there is an audible "click".
I'm beginning to think maybe it's the hinge

That's not the hinge trigger, that's mostly the trigger bar depressing the striker block and the sear trying to release the striker. Apex striker block is different it is more rounded at the top, the S&W is more flat, also the apex striker block spring is a bit shorter and softer, the apex sear is different too so it doesn't put too much resistance to the striker. The SW Pc guns have different factory sear that's why they all have better trigger, and they change the SB on the shield 45 I bet that's another reason for the trigger being good out of the box.

The 9mm shield I bought last November has a fairly crisp 6 pound trigger. I like it. I don't plan changing a thing.

I wouldn't mind the PC if it wasn't ported. Completely useless and just adds to the price for the sake of the price

Funny, my 1st Shield was a 45. Everyone talked about the 45 trigger being better than the 9 and 40. With the current rebate, I could not resist purchasing a Shield 9. It came in from Brownells yesterday. I haven't fired it yet but either I am very lucky or very unlucky. The dry fire trigger on my 9 seems very much like that on my 45. So either both are good (not great but good) or both are bad. They feel good to me and that's all that counts right? I mean they are not as smooth as my Kahr P-40 but I can shoot great with the Shield 45 so if this new 9 is anything like the 45 with live ammo, I am super happy with a $239.99 out the door pistol.

I have no complaints about the one I got a couple of months ago.
