45 Shield Mag ?
My shield, like most, came with 2 magazines. One flat base pad and the other with an extension. They are BOTH 7 rounders! Can that be right? I thought they were shipped with one 6 rounder (flat base) and one seven ( extended) rounder. Both mags have witness holes 6 +1.
Im in no way complaining, but yAm I missing something? Or just mistaken?

Did you try to put seven in the flat base mag? I did. Mine holds six. They both have the same holes and say 6+1.

45 Shield Mag ?
The base plate is the difference.
Look at the bottom and you'll see they are labeled 7 RND & 6 RND.

It's easier for S&W to make one mag body that uses different base plates to achieve different capacities.

the flat only will hold 6 rounds the extended is 7, both are engraved 6+1 but you will need the extended base plate and a longer spring to make it hold 7.

And in case you haven't heard, don't disassemble the 7rd... unless you love frustration.

Thanks all. I could have sworn I put 7 in the flat base mag. I'll check today when I take it out for the first time.

It should loosen up. When I load I press the top round in quite deep before pushing the next on top. Press down with the thumb and it should loosen. Magguts will be out with a new spring soon and should give a +1 to both.

My magazines must be an exception. While I will admit they are a little stiff, I haven't had any issues loading either of them to capacity. Maybe I just push a little harder than most people?

Slap it on its back and maybe its bare little bottom...ok I'll try that. I've had 6 rounds in it for last 24 hrs hoping to help break it in.

Mine did that too. Work the Uplula up and down on the stack and it will get them all seated where you can squeeze that last one in there.
Took about 1-200 rounds before that loosened up
...and yes, very tight tolerances from front to rear and they need to be seated.

I just got a 9mm Shield. I was thinking of the .45, but then I compared it to my 457 and thought that there was just not enough difference to justify the new gun. Maybe I am just an old fart who is too cheap to spring for the new .45, but my old 457 carries just as easily, and no mag problems to boot. AND it is DA/SA, holds more ammo and is quite light. Someone please tell me that I am not slipping gently into senility...........

Probably not AKA. I didn't need one either but when I found that it could be had for $224? I couldn't say no.
Maybe I'm the senile one.

Ok hopefully after a while it will take 7th. Went to range for 2nd time with it. Shot about 50 through it. 50 through the xd mod 2 45 and 50 through the hk vp40. I back slapped it per 1 response and seemed to seat em better but only room for about a half round more. Pressing hard with upula seems it is bottomed out and no way will another round ever go in. Strong spring.
Thanks

Just picked up my Shield 45 from my local gun shop. I couldn't fit more than 3 rounds in either of the magazines. I had to buy an UpLula in order to fill the dang thangs. Got it done and I'm really impressed with this gun.

I've got 3 of the 7 round mags. With the Uplula I'm able to load all of them to capacity.

I went back and read the thread again....your not the OP.
Sorry ...I have to ask....are you SURE your not trying that with the 6 rounder?....because it SAYS 6+1 on the 6 round mag.
...a bit confusing.
If your SURE its the 7 round mag. Are the legs sticking out of the base? Because if they are then the spring retainer plate is canted and that would surely cut back on capacity.
Piccys possible?
Give the pics above a good going over one more time. Some good pictures up there.

No I am not the OP. Thought my problem was close enough to the topic and thought I could get some answers here instead of starting a new post.
As u can see in the pics I can get 6 in the 6 but only 6 in the 7 rounder. The spring is completely compressed. Both show brass in the 6th hole and spring in the +1 hole. Using the uplula and back slapping does not help.
All the other mags I've owned from 5 to 33 rounds they load fully with no break in, load right up. This mag extremely frustrating. Thanks to those that have responded.
Oh and sorry but what do u mean by legs.

This vid will show you the legs poking out. They are part of the spring retainer.
So it appears that the spring retainer IS down in its notch in the baseplate because the legs are not sticking out. Seems to lean towards some kind of spring problem.
Im going to make a vid here at lunch time and post up for you. Ill try to imitate the 7th round problem and what I did to overcome it because mine were blistering tight also. If that doesnt help its going to be some kinda spring malfunction or something else.

I don't know why my mags doesn't like the uplula..every time I tried using it the follower likes to get stuck. I have no issues loading them by hand.

Thats interesting!
I always disassemble, clean, lube my mags. Also like to shoot-and-move so the mags do get dirty rollin around on the ground.
Heres the viddy.... I also pull the mag down and re-assemble...

Thanks for the vids. Watched them and gave it a quick try in popping the legs in and out. However I can only get one leg to appear. My uplula doesn't like either mag either. Gets stuck and wont press down. Worse mags ever I have come across. I have errands to do and will try later tonight to try and get the other leg to appear or to even take it apart.
Was hoping to use this gun in future pistol leagues as it is a great gun but with mags that take forever and a day to load and won't even take their full load I can't rely on it yet for a league. Will buy some more and maybe they will work as I will need more anyways for the league.
Thanks

I don't know how you would get just the one leg. They are all one piece. Once you get the hang of it, it won't be an issue to re-assemble the magazines. The mag springs will loosen up quickly.

Future mags will be ok. I assure you somethin is bad hinckey inside that one, especially if both legs didnt pop out evenly. Its either broke inside or canted sideways with one leg inside the mag (and thats what is holding things up to the 6th round)

Hopefully Ultra45 didn't mind me highjacking the post.
Thanks much Dad Roman for the info and vids. I went to the range and some was able to take it apart and back together correctly. I can now put in 6 by hand and 7th with uplula. Whew. :-)

Recommend getting an universal UPLULA. The mags loosen up but the UPLULA is great for nearly all pistol mags. Get spoiled.

Your very welcome!
Glad you got it worked out for sure. That spring retainer plate mustve been hung up somehow. It got assembled incorrectly at the factory with that other leg on the inside. Thats what was hanging you up on that seventh round.
