Default Handi Racker

Does anyone use one of these for a 9mm Shield? Wife's arthritis makes it hard for her to charge the weapon. If anyone uses one what size.
Thanks in advance.

Yes... If you do a Forum search, you'll see that many members with hand weakness like the Handi Packer for the range.

Some have written about not being practical for Self Defense use, but...
1: Many don't even carry a spare mag
2: Practice to do tactical reloads to where you're (or She, rather) reloads BEFORE running out of bullets (to the point that it becomes 2nd nature to reload before running out), so she doesn't need to rack
the slide.

If she's not going to carry and only going to be shooting at the range... it's a non-issue... Get one.

My wife won't rack a semi so she has revolvers. She is comfortable with them.

Would maybe a tacrac work for her?

Yup... Different strokes (so to speak)
My wife doesn't like reloading a wheel gun (even with a speed loader). She also doesn't like true DAO. All her handguns are bottom feeders and she can rack anything you hand her (after learning several techniques from the Cornered Cat site).

Unless the OP's wife has tried and doesn't like a revolver, that could be an option.

I'd never heard of them before. Seems a lot of trouble and something extra to carry.

That being said, my wife has fairly weak hand strength and I have arthritis in my thumbs. I can charge my Glocks without difficulty but not without pain (at least for now). Both of us use TacRackers on our pistols==nightstand, field and EDC. Both of us can use push-pull but the TacRacker makes it easier for us.

This is just for the range in my home and the indoor I belong to.
If it works she can practice at home when ever she wants. Wants to
show off for our sons. She has a Tandem Cross
on her Ruger 22/45 Lite. Works great. My son really likes the one he has on his Ruger
and he doesn't have hand problems.

Thanks. Read a number of the posts. A few were pretty funny. My favorite was "hold on while I get my equipment" (or something)
My wife isn't going to get in a gun fight. Neither am I if I can help it. I carry a gun only to protect my wife,
and I will never get involved in a situation that puts her in any type of danger. She is my only responsibility.
If you want to play John Wayne remember he stayed home with the women and kids in WWII.
I spent 25 years on the street 22 of which I was a Fire Arms Instructor.  Getting involved in serious confrontations is like throwing a forward pass.
More bad things happen than good. For 10 years it was my duty to put  myself last in any type of situation necessary with no regard for
my safety. USN 3 tours "In Country". Then 25 on the Dept. Now my only consideration is my family. I don't carry a weapon for ego.

Did you see my recommendation for a tacrac?

TacRack-Makes Slide Racks Easy - GunsAmerica Digest

They make one for the shield for under 40 bucks. Then it is there all the time and unobtrusive. Just a suggestion of course.

I use the Handi-Racker and really like it for the range and cleaning. The one you need for the Shield 9mm is the compact size . Hope this helps.

My wife had trouble racking the slide, but she is doing great after some training. However, she has trouble breaking the Shield down for cleaning. She can't take it apart and put it back together yet. I think the Pachmayr RACK-IT would help. Her problem is manipulating the slide stop and take down level while racking the slide.
