Default M&P Shield 9 Recoil Spring Assembly

I picked up a new Shield 9 a couple of weeks ago (shoots great BTW)...the price was too nice to pass up, and the rebate didn't hurt either. Had a Shield about three years ago and traded as I was going through single stack 9s. Anyway, so I email Smith last week and ask how to get an extra recoil spring assembly for my new Shield (I used the web site form and entered my address). Today, two recoil spring assemblies show up in the mail (separate packages)...no note, no charge, just a packing slip. Wanted to say, thanks Smith and Wesson, free recoil spring assemblies. I guess they have some extras around the factory...

Good to hear that they are once again readily available.
An internet scare a few years ago about a FEW RSAs being defective, started a feeding frenzy of sorts, causing a major backlog of RSAs.

Hopefully, hearing that they are available won't cause everyone to order them simply for the 'Just In Case' factor.

For the record... My 05/2012 model has around 15K rounds through it now and STILL using the original RSA.
Yes... I did get a spare when someone wrote that 'they heard' that it was recommended to swap out the RSA @ 5K rounds, but like the 'Pirate Code', that seems to be more of a Guideline (suggestion/educated guess) than a Rule.

That's good news. Two years ago, it took two failed attempts by S&W, and 3 1/2 months before I could get a proper replacement RSA for the defective one in my new Shield 9.

Well, in the interest of spreading the love, I did donate one of the RSAs to my neighbor who has lots of miles on his Shield. I'm gonna be out of pocket this summer with work and wanted to have some extra "stuff" with me should I need it. Always have parts for the 19 on my side, but never for my BUG! Very happy to have another Shield...shoots as well as the 19.

FWIW, my first Shield ended up with a broken RSA the first time I went to the range. A kind member on this forum offered to send me one of his. I thanked him, but declined. I called SW and had one within a week. Since obtaining another Shield recently, I called SW and ordered 2 RSAs just to have as a back-up. They cost 15.00 each. I was unaware of any "free" offers on this part, but knew from earlier experience that I wanted a spare on hand.

Nice to hear that they just sent them out for free to a few of you guys. I just picked up a SS guide rod from SS guide rods. I was interested to see how much easier it made it to rack the slide. This is my second Shield. My first was a PC 40 but sold it and got a standard 9 during the sale. So far first impressions it works as advertised to make the slide easier to rack. Haven't shot with it yet will do that when I install my True Precision barrel as well. But regardless I'll have a spare RSA.

Is the RSA really only 5k rounds? If I remember right, I've read on other firearms, an RSA failure will damage the gun. Is that true? With how well the Shield shoots I'll be hitting 5k sooner than I thought.

Did you get the threaded one? Been considering one just because, not because of a need.

No, non threaded. Though the non threaded is still slightly longer than stock so I still needed to get a new holster that supports a threaded barrel. Both of my holsters we closed on the bottom. One I could probably modify easily, my Bravo would look like **** modified so had to order a new one.
