I bought mine - no safety, 3 mags and night sights - on GunsAmerica for $379 shipped. So just over $300 after the rebate. I thought that was a terrific price, too, given the package. He still has some on offer at that price.

They have the .40 No Safety for just $5 more,....but no free shipping which iirc is about $18.

Smith & Wesson M&P .40 SHIELD Pistol, No Thumb Safety – 10034

Couldn't resist and bought two more 9's. That makes four 9's and a pair of .45's all under this rebate deal,.....fantastic!

PSA has five 8rd 9mm mags for a hundred bucks shipped too.

I'm betting there is a 2.0 in the works. After all, S&W sold a million Shields before they began giving them away. Who knows how many have been sold since April.

If I'm right, probably the 2.0 will be offered at a more "normal" price.

The current 9mm Shield has a list price of $449 and there is a $30 difference between the 1.0 and 2.0 9mm Full Size. So, my guess is that the 2.0 Shield comes out with a list price of at least $449 (maybe even $479) and they will be hard to get for the first few months 'cause everybody will believe that an almost perfect gun has been improved. For the first months when they're hard to get, dealers might be able to get north of $400 (maybe well north). At that point, some of us will have NIB 1.0's that we'll be thrilled to sell for $300.

Holes in my logic?????

Deals, Deals, everywhere- found another one, this one from Gunbuyer.

This one is $24 more then the PSA deal (still free shipping) but you get 2 extra mags- which you can argue then is an even better deal.

Wow, 2 extra mags, so if I am reading correctly, the Shield comes with 4 mags and free shipping! I have never purchased from them before, are they a good / safe place to do business?

Finally pulled the trigger and grabbed the PSA $274.99 deal last night, I've been patiently watching for best deals all month but can't see it getting any cheaper then this anywhere else before the rebate runs out next week. Its odd how they go out of stock on the PSA site every day, then back in stock- almost like PSA is playing games. I can't imagine that they are actually getting in daily shipments of Shields, but who knows.

Anyway now I will have the 9 to keep its big brother 45 company.

A year or two ago, who among us would have ever imagined the possibility to buy an excellent pistol for $200 NIB? Makes me wonder how sales of Hi Points have been doing.

Naturally the Hi-points are priced less than the Shields, but only a little bit. I'll stick with my Shields. I ordered another one...

Yes is the short answer. Bought a Walther PPQ from them about 3 weeks ago. Best price, free shipping. Good communication. Had it in a week. Call and ask for Erika.

This offer put me over the edge on whether to buy another 9mm Shield.
$275, no shipping, found a FFL here for $10 transfer. Great deal for $210 after rebate!

Wonder what they will do after June? They will have to get prices up. A new 2.0 model? Are we going to be regretting our purchases come next year?

I don't think anyone could regret a Shield at $225.00 or less.
I did not jump on this because of the rumors of the 2.0 shield introduction next year and the possibility of a new BG 380.

I hope I made the right decision on the 9 and I hope the 2.0 shield is close to my Shield 45. If so I made the right decision for me....If not...I missed the boat.

Ya same here. Im sure the 2.0's are coming.

My original thought was "225 for a S&W...How can you go wrong?"

Pretty thrilled with the outcome of my thought process. Hope your pleased with yours

There's nothing they can do to the Shield to make me want a $400 2.0 more than I want a $200 1.0,.....unless the 2.0 comes in the glove box of an included Ferrari.

GunBuyer.com has the Shield 9mm w/Safety (180021) listed for the $299 with free shipping but there is no mention that I can see of any additional magazines.
Is it a new listing or did I miss the extra mag part?
Thanks
James

I don't know how they sell them that cheap. My good friend works for Bud's Guns and he said they sell them at cost....which is nowhere near $300. My only suspicion is they bought thousands of them early on and are trying to get rid of them.

Someone who bought one from LSA needs to chime in with the production date so we can see how long it's been sitting on the shelf

Some of us are betting that pricing will eventually "normalize". If we're right, NIB guns that cost not much more than $200 will become very salable.

I don't know why Bud's or any other online retailer would sell anything at cost- sounds like a money losing business strategy to me.

I figure somehow PSA must have purchased a huge quantity if Shields at a ridiculously low prices to be able to sell these at $275 shipped (since they are still paying shipping). They are still making a profit I bet- probably very slim profit but a profit none the less that is helped by the high volume sold.

Well mine cost $298.00 plus $17 shipping just last week. . Oh well....screw it still a good price. The .45 I bought at te same time seems to already incorporate what I would expect a 2.0 M&P9 to have notable the new aggressive stippling which I really like.
After looking at what "improvements" the 2.0 offers-I really can't see any advantage in selling my 1.0 for a 2.0. Change out the trigger and put some skate board tape on the grips and viola-a 2.0!!!

I discussed pricing with a guy who is a huge reseller of several top handgun brands. As I remember the conversation, he explained that gun makers sell them kind of like cars. In other words, the more he buys, the more he CAN buy (particularly important in the case of hard-to-get models). So, big sellers want to move big quantities in order to assure their future supplies (something like a quota?).

He also explained that factories offer special deals such as "buy 6, get one free". He said there was a special promotion where some quantity of free magazines were shipped along with each gun. This might explain why we've seen such low prices on Shield magazines and even the recently expired "Buy a Shield at $299 delivered and get two extra magazines free" offer.

It's a retail strategy known as a "loss leader". Sell an item at or close to cost with the idea that customers will spend more money with them. It will also bring in new customers.

Years ago when my father owned a retail store, I remember he used a cost list which was based on purchase volume ($$$).

Typically, all distributors got a small discount off MSRP regardless of how little they purchased. Discounts increased as they purchased more. If I remember correctly, the top discount was somewhere around 40% off MSRP.

If that schedule, or something similar is still used today, that would mean cost on the Shield 9, to the top distributors, would be somewhere around $270.

I can think of several logical reasons;

I have become a big believer in 3 is 2, 2 is 1 and 1 is None. Not sure what 4 is but it fits in somewhere.

Having more than one gun gives you a spare if one decides to break. The common rule for IPSC / IPSC shooters is to have three guns...one you are shooting, one that is at the gunsmith being repaired and the third one waiting for the first one to break.

It is also good strategy is have the same spare guns in the event your primary is taken for evidence in a event such as after a self-defense shooting or is stolen. Just go home, pick one out of the safe, load and slip it into the holster.

Prepper / SHTF;

Having multiples of the same gun in same caliber makes acquiring magazines and accessories such as holsters very easy.

It also makes inventory and keeping track of what magazines / accessories go with what guns.

Of course it makes arming everyone in your clan easy.

Cross training;

Teaching everyone in your family to shoot the same model makes training very easy. No wondering if this gun has a manual safety and which ones don't, etc. The larger the family the need for more of the same guns.

Gun Christmas Santa Claus;

The firesale prices makes gift giving easy and affordable for the Gun Santa Claus.

Finally some deals are just to good to pass up if you have the money (which sadly I don't).

Maybe, for years that was the reason 22 Rimfire ammunition was so cheap. Stop by the store to get some 22 to go plinking on the weekend so that means I also need some targets and will need to clean the gun afterwards so maybe some solvent, oil and patches.

Another reason is gun sales in general are much such when a pro-gun President and Congress is in office. President Trump is quite possibly the most pro-gun President since Teddy Roosevelt. Without any fear of anti-gun laws being passed on the Federal level for the next two years there is not the concern for losing gun rights and gun bans.

Gun makers (and ammunition manufacturers) gambled on Hillary winning the election and now are stuck with huge amounts of unsold inventory. Unsold products sitting on shelves is losing money.

The Shield 2.0 idea is interesting. Maybe S&W is copying what car makers have done for decades. Just change the chrome and grill on last years model and call it a improvement to create demand for it.

Some good thoughts on this subject.

I can't turn down a bargain. I probably would have been happy with my first two 9's and two .45's(ALWAYS have two of anything)at $264 each after rebate, but once the after rebate price dropped to $200 I couldn't resist just a few more. Originally I couldn't choose between 9mm and .45, nor between 'safety' and 'non-safety' so I just scarfed up one of each variation. I'm actually up to two .45's and six 9's now and trying like mad to get through the next couple of days without hitting them again. The last four purchased were driven purely by the ridiculously low price.

BSA1 upthread made a list of a good dozen reasons to have multiples of the same thing and it looks like a very good list to me. I probably have twenty different model guns that I have a silly number of. Just works out that way when I find something I really like. One thing that didn't make the list would be 'gunsmithing or projects'. I sometimes go out of my way to collect several of the same thing just to make it worth my while to tinker with them(and stock spare parts). These M64's were acquired as a refinishing and custom stocking project which I've only tackled halfway so far,......

Not really. They're just a bunch of $225 police trade-ins but they seemed to be a solid investment at the time. Hope to get around to bead blasting or scotch brighting eventually, maybe some barrel bobbing or 9mm converting,....who knows. Just something to play with in my dotage.

I bought 2 of the NTS ones with this sale but would EASILY buy a third for $200 after rebate if they put those on sale (curse of being a lefty, the shield's and other sub compacts tend to be have non ambi safeties for those evil righties)

Update for those interested on shipping times from PSA these days.

I ordered the Shield 9 $274 deal on Friday 6/23 , received email it was shipped on 6/28, tracking says it will be at my LGS on Monday 7/3.

Not too bad from PSA.

Did they issue an invoice with the "ordered" date or "shipped" date?

Not exactly, but I can print the invoice now if I go to "My Orders" at the PSA site- shows the date I ordered it, the shipping details, and gun purchased. Not sure what will come in the box- I'll see on Monday.

That's very helpful, thanks!

I asked because their site shows the rebate can be gotten if orders are placed by the end of today. So, I wanted to be sure that the "order" date will appear on the invoice. One more question if you don't mind...did they charge your credit card when you ordered or when they shipped?

Enjoy your new Shield!

Nothing comes in the box and the website invoice doesn't show a serial number. I questioned them about this(Whittakers included an itemized invoice showing dates/prices/serial numbers)but PSA claimed I didn't need any of that and the downloaded invoice without serial numbers would suffice. Hope so,.....or PSA owes me $450 worth of rebates if S&W doesn't pay up.

I only mention this because the Milano website doesn't yet show anything pending for my first two PSA rebates(haven't submitted the last four). My Whittaker rebates were filed 4/8(9mm)and 4/24(.45)and both are showing on the Milano website(4/14 and 4/30). The two 9mm rebates I filed from PSA on 5/22 are still not up(although I do realize that there's a long delay to posting because Milano is obviously swamped. Still, we're coming up on 40days since I submitted the PSA 'invoices' so I'm still concerned. Once those two successfully post I'll breathe a little easier. Will update if/when I get confirmation that the PSA paperwork 'accepts'.

That concerns me. I bought a couple from Brownells and they had no problem providing "proper" invoices (with numbers).

The first Shield I bought shows up on Milano's site but those from the end of May and early this month, not yet.

They charged my CC a few days after I ordered, and before it shipped If I recall.

My PSA purchases posted to the Milano website today(July5)and look to be valid showing a $75 rebate. I submitted them on 5-22 and the site shows them entered on 5-30 but they didn't 'post' until today. That was an unnecessary month of 'wondering'.

Happy to announce my $274.99 PSA purchase arrived at my LGS this week, and I was able to take it to the range and test it out. The Shield 9 performed great- the 9's low recoil and great feel left me very impressed. I have always been a 45 guy, but this gun now gives me another great carry option. I did install Talon rubber grips which makes a big difference to be able to hold onto such a small pistol- I have big hands. Its more compact size then the Shield 45 makes it a bit easier for me to carry and conceal- even have it able to fit in my Desantis Nemesis pocket holster in my Cargo shorts front pocket- nice fit and very comfy- I'm ready for Summer!

I submitted two Shield rebates MAY22 and they didn't show up on the Milano website until JULY5, but when they did show up they were listed as entered on MAY30.

In other words it took 6 1/2wks before there was any indication that I'd made a submission.

Just submitted four more yesterday and don't expect to hear anything about them until this fall.
