Question Magazines-S&W Or Pro Mag?

I am shopping online for M&P 9mm 17 rd. mags. Mag Warehouse has factory S&W for $24.99. Midway has Pro Mag for $19.99. Both offer the same shipping price. Decisions, decisions!
Or, does anyone know where they can be bought for a lower price?

I've gotten good pricing and service from gunmagwarehouse. Except for high quality aftermarket 1911 magazines I do not use anything but factory magazines in my firearms. The savings is so small I do not sacrifice quality and reliability when buying magazines.

For M&P magazines, S&W factory are the way to go, especially if you run them hard and want reliability.

You can save a bit if you're ready to buy several at Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol Magazines - Botach and they ship free.

I'll only use factory mags in my guns; there are several good online sites that offer good pricing and service for those pieces (just my .02 of course)

Natchezss.com on sale has excellent prices.
CDNNsports.com has excellent prices on sale.

The trick is to wait for a sale
Geoff
Who would not buy Promags, well, I might take a chance on a long LCP magazine, if they didn't sell out so quick.

Pro Mags are junk. No matter what gun they are for. The only aftermarket I use are for Glocks, I use Pmags from Magpul. They are better than factory Glock mags. Wish they made M&P mags, Sig mags, FNS mags, and Ruger American.

The last time I did a search on Pro Mags There were way more bad than good reviews. Do your home work before you buy.

Factory or MacGar (spelling?).

Pro mag is junk for any brand of firearm. When I get one in a trade I use them as targets

I've have several after market mags that work fine but not with pro mags. IThey didn't feed at all in my full size MP1.0, and they were very sporadic in my AR. I had a couple for my AK and while one functioned ok, the other didn't even fit. I just say no to pro mag products now.

Factory or Mec-gar if available for a gun.

Pro Mags are unreliable, Factory or Mec-Gar for my S&Ws.

Are you starting to see a trend here?

Makes me wonder how Pro Mag stays in business with the reputation that they have......and yet they are still in business that I know of....

Mags are an important part of any gun. They are are absolutely critical to the proper cycling of a semi-auto.

I've learned through experience to never trust a modified mag or an aftermarket mag for anything other than shooting at the range. They jam and they break, that's why they're inexpensive.

Spend the money and get the ones the manufacturer designed and built for your firearm. You get what you pay for.

I'm with Arik (and countless other online reviewers) on this one. I had bad experiences with them some time back for my 3rd gen S&W. Some work. Some don't
For the extra $5, get the reliability you want AND the backing of S&W if their is an issue.

I bought a pro mag magazine for my Lc9s just to see if it was Ok since it was much less expensive than OEM. Took it to the range and based upon its performance (feed problems) with good ammo I trashed on the way out. I wouldn't ' sell it a fellow gun owner.

I stopped in to look at the carnage at my local Gander Mtn yesterday. The mags section was empty, except for a very few over-priced 1911 mags and row after row of full pegs of ProMags. And at 40% off the original price, they would have been deals, but no one wants them.

I recently tried a Pro Mag for my M&P40C, trying to save money and get more rounds. Mistake!! Many fail to feeds, sloppy fit, I sent it back, got a factory mag, and it works fantastically without flaws!!

The name is dedicated to my grandfather. He started out as a Brown Shirt. Then they officially became known as the SS. He was a Panzer Tank division officer. He was honorably discharged and died of natural causes at the age of 96. He kept ALL of his military issued uniforms, helmets, field glasses, rifle, pistol, knives, etc. My uncle Jurgen, whom lives in Germany, has all of it at his house in storage.
And, I am VERY PROUD of my grandfather!

That's very cool about your grandfather. IMO, I think the Germans, during both WWI & WWII, had the best looking uniforms of ANY military, then and now.
About the magazines, ALWAYS stay with factory S&W!

This has to be one of the great unsolved mysteries of the universe. I have seen negative reviews of ProMag stuff for years, and don't recall ever seeing a positive review of their products in general. (Although there are occasional reports of an individual magazine functioning properly.)

And yet, they persist.

You should be very proud of your Grandfather. It sounds like he was a Patriot to his country and a very proud man. Our country could use more Patriots right about now.

I couldn't agree with you more Captain TMD. Esp. after the last several years.
PanzerSS is one of my shooting buddies. I have seen some pics that his uncle has sent him from Germany, of his grandfather during war time.
In one pic, he is standing next to his TIGER E tank & crew, with a Panther tank in the background. The back of the pic is written in German, but translates,"Had to stop to fuel up." His grandfather looks very sharp in his combat uniform. BTW, he was 6'2" tall, 195 lbs., blonde hair, blue eyes.
Anyway, I straightened him out on the Pro Mag mags. We are going to town tomorrow (58 miles away) to search a few pawn shops for used S&W mags. You wouldn't believe how many you can find in pawn shops.
