Smile Shield envy

A friend bought a Shield 9, 40 & 45.
Although I love my Shield 9, I have Shield 45 envy and Shield FDE envy... 5 days left on the rebate...

Default There is only one way.....

There is only one way to cure that envy and I think you know what it is.

As a hint, I have a way of dealing with temptation, and that is to yield to it.

I tried to resist this thread but....
I failed!

Since April 1st, I have bought:
Six Shield 45's,
Five Shield 40's,
Four Shield 9mm's,

And, a partridge in a pear tree?

Nope, really, I'm spending my kids' inheritance.
I shot all six 45's; one 40; and, three of the 9mm's so far.

The story on the 45's is in another thread. After I'm all done indulging myself when the rebate ends, I'll probably keep one 45, two or three 40's and at least one 9mm. I'm a 40 fan, foremost, and I think it's the best overall compromise considering size, ballistics, cost and performance. But, that's just my bias - to the forty.

I hope nobody else is as weak of character and as fiscally irresponsible as I have been while victim of this rebate syndrome that I suffered from...

If you have, let's hear just how sick you are?

It's tough. I've had my 45 Shield for about 6 weeks now and love it. I've had an FDE Shield 9 in my cart on a website for a couple of days now and my mouse keeps hovering over the Order Now tab. I'm a 45 fanboy and so far I've resisted adding another caliber to my meager collection but I checked out the FDE Shield last weekend at BPS and I really liked it.

"I'm Jeppo and I'm a Shieldaholic."

But, in my defense, I'm not quite as addicted as Nonuthin.

So far, only 4 9's but probably will order another couple today. Does my one BG 380 count?

If I needed a replacement for any of my gen. 3 pistols, it would not be a striker fired, plastic coated one. It would be a DA/SA alloy frame .45 pistol, with an external hammer. The only ones I see currently are made by Sig.

So far my one Shield is keeping me happy but I have to admit the .45 is starting to turn my head. But for now I have just the 9mm and remain quite pleased with it.

And you will remain quite pleased with your Shield 9... until you fire a Shield .45. After renting a .45 at my range, I knew after a couple of magazines that my 9 was headed toward the shelf. It was immediately apparent to me that the .45 was superior in almost every way. I purchased my .45 in February, and haven't shot my 9 since.

So, be warned: If you try a .45, be prepared to experience a downgrade of your assessment of your 9. And be prepared to buy a new .45.

Rebates end soon.

Ditto here....that's why I am waiting and hoping for the new 2.0 9 with the 45 trigger and grip...but will probably never give up the 45.

I was also bit by the rebate bug. I already had a perfectly fine Shield 9, but I really wanted the Performance Center model. I even considered Hicock45's assessment where he didn't see much of a difference between the two models to warrant the extra cost. However, there was that $75 rebate... Needless to say I am now the owner of two Shield 9's; the standard model, and now the PC model.

Well, I don't see much, if anything, to be envious about someone owning multiple Shields. Well, maybe envious of them having the money to buy a bunch of 'em.

I have a .45 Shield. Bought it months ago. Before the rebate. It has a good trigger right out of the box. Other than that little surprise, there's nothing extraordinary about the pistol, nothing special. A bunch of folks seem unhappy with the new style grip texture. Doesn't bother me. Or they don't like the loaded chamber indicator. Or the forward serrations on the slide. They don't like external safeties on them (mine has one...a point in its favor for me) Everyone raves about the .45 Shield, but then proceed to nitpick the little pistol to death.

But really, Shields (any Shield) are just like Glocks. Or those black Springfield things. They're a dime-a-dozen pistol. I carry mine in a dime-a-dozen Mini-Scabbard holster by DeSantis. It's an okay pistol, but again, nothing special.

Academy carries one without the thumb safety. Last time I checked, the S&W website doesn't even show it, but it exists, I bought one a few weeks ago. $389.99.

I had no interest in a .45 until the rebate and sale hit. I just couldn't pass it up. Well after shooting my Shield .45 a few times (400 rounds), I'm ready to make it my EDC. Shot 75 flawless rounds of Winchester Ranger T 230gr, which will be my carry round. Now I'm just waiting on a new holster from TT Gunleather. Life is good.
