The -7 is brighter at 500 lumens and has a machined aluminum housing. The -3 is only 125 lumens and has a polymer housing. I think the weight is pretty similar between the two, despite the differences in material. I can’t really comment on battery life outside of the manufacturer’s specs.
A lot of people, myself included, tend to prefer the aluminum housing as it’s sturdier, and could potentially hold up better under hard use. I’ve seen a handful of reports of some of the polymer Inforce lights (different brand, I know) not making it through a training class without the case breaking. It’s a matter of personal preference, but all things being equal, I’d rather have the aluminum model.
I have half a dozen various handheld and rail mount Streamlights. The only issue I’ve ever had with any of them was with a rail mount ProTac. I had a loose Pic rail and mistakenly thought it was the light itself. I got a little ham-fisted tightening it onto my AR and stripped the tension knob threads. Streamlight replaced the light, no questions asked.
