Final Results of the .380 ACP Ammo Quest | Shooting The Bull
Seems like Precision One 90 grain XTP was the winning round. It had excellent penetration, more than 12" but not more than 18", so enough penetration, without over-penetrating. That meets FBI standards. Also, all of the rounds tested expanded properly as well. Again, that meets FBI standards, as the reviewer states that if the FBI were to allow agents use the .380 platform, they would require them to use this ammunition.
That was good enough for me to pick up 3 boxes of them and I bought them right from the manufacturer's website. No hassles, no searching all over creation for them, no waiting in lines, a few clicks and they showed up 2 or 3 days after I ordered them, outside my garage door. They were reasonably priced and they arrived well packaged, in a timely manner. I won't be carrying any other ammunition for my Bodyguard 380 when I'm on the streets.
The full results of the very scientific tests are there to see or if you aren't into that much reading there is a video that spells it out clearly.
I just thought I'd pass that along in case any of you were as curious as I was about the effectiveness of the .380 round as far as stopping power goes. Next up they test 9mm rounds for the same characteristics.
Also, for all of your .380 hating friends out there that tell you that a 9mm is the smallest round that is effective enough for a carry gun, here's proof that they're wrong, at least as far as that one particular round is concerned. There are a few other brands that are close, but not quite as good, but as far as I'm concerned, it's Precision One XTPs in my .380 from now on.
Safe shooting to ya'll!
