Default Newbie with first Smith. Red dot and Sights?

I've been wanting a full size 9mm to add to the collection with the idea I may add an optic later down the road. My LGS had a killer deal on a 5" Performance Center ported M&P 9mm. I picked it up, took it to the range, and absolutely love it!
I've read about the porting blackening out the front sight quickly and experienced first hand how it happens.
I have a set of Dawson Precision sights with the FO front and blacked out rear on my EDC Walther P99C. I see they have a similar set up for my new M&P. Any experience with these sights on the particular gun? Do they cowitness as advertised with red dots?
Like I said, I will add a red dot at some point also. Cabelas actually has the RMR on sale for a good price right now. Are the RMRs a good choice for this firearm?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I see you are new here. Welcome.
Many folks here know a bunch more than I. But anyway, I put a Sight-mount on my Shield, and a Fastfire 3. The sights do not co-witness. On the Core, with the trim plate removed an RMR should co-witness. I think on your PC with no factory milled out area, you have the same issue I had with my Shield. The Sight-mount works perfectly, though, other than using it as a regular sight, gun shoots high with normal sight picture.... hope that helps.

Dawson Precision usually has many models available in different heights and widths so you can pair up different ones. I think the differnt mini red dots also very in height so you might want to wait til you get your RDS and then check out the different options Dawson has for the C.O.R.E. They usually have some different notch widths for the rears too. If you look at them individually instead of the sets on their website, they have more options. It also doesn't cost any more to buy them separate...they just put the sets on there like that to make it easier for people who don't want to buy them individually. You can call or email them too if you need help choosing.

I do not have a red dot on any of my S&Ws, but I do have a Vortex Venom 3 moa on my FNX-45 Tactical. I am very pleased with it. It is affordable and well-constructed. I've shot about 1200 rounds with it without any need for adjustment -- it continues to hold zero. Last week, for the first time in my three-year shooting career, I was able to blow out the bullseye at 25 yards with the aid of the Venom. If you can find one at a good price, I highly recommend it.

Oh, and I can put in another thumbs up for the burris fast fire 3. seems pretty good for the money. Of course everyone seems to love the RMR from trijicon and they just came out the generation 2 which from what I've seen adds some nice improvements. I personally just couldn't justify the price tag and wanted something not so bulky. I bought the vortex venom and the burris fast fire 3 but ended up keeping the burris because I picked up the dot much easier than on the venom. both are very nice and I actually liked the look of the venom a bit more but being able to more quickly acquire the dot made the choice for me.
